I need Help from Experienced Bloggers!

hi everyone, i was thinking of setting up a blogging business. however, i have a few questions..

1. i have seen many blog designs, how do i know which is the one design i want when i get it designed by the designer? like this is where the RSS feed should go, that is where the email optin should go, this is where the advertisement should go.

2. is it true that when you get the blog designed, you cannot change the placement of the ads after the blog has been designed?

3. Where do i get the best blog designs? I was thinking of cheaper options like minisiteXXXXX.com (which is not the best from the portfolio i see there) or more expensive options like 99designs.com. However 99 designs.com only allows the design of up to 5 webpages... what do i do if i have more than that?

Thanks!

That depends on the theme you use, as well as the degree of web design skill that you have in order to customize it. If you're working with a designer, then be careful about how you describe everything to them, as they're human and not mind readers.

No, who told you that? You'll want to forget about ads anyway as your site will be new and can't reasonably charge someone for advertising...yet. Same thing with your sidebar: you don't want to clutter up the site and distract your potential audience.

Personally, I'd recommend Wordpress with the Optimize Press, Thesis Theme, or Headway Themes. 99 designs is okay if you know what you want and can afford it, but I prefer the former. Good luck.

There are lots of blog designs out there -- many of which are free, so you don't need to have a theme specifically designed for your site in order to make money. In fact, the theme I use on my blog is a totally free one. It just has to be a theme that you like and one that fits your niche (i.e. don't use a dog theme if you're in the fitness niche).

There are lots of sites where you can get free themes that are broken down by niche. All you have to do is a quick Google search. As long as you have a nice-looking theme, it's the content that will bring visitors back to your site.

    Good luck,
    Joey

Based on using many theme's on client sites via fiverr I have to say that thesis is the best and most flexible theme available. You can pick any colour theme you want, create your own header, and do loads of stuff that is fixed in many expensive design templates.

Overall you need to have a cheat sheet of about 5 blogs that you like and combine these into your own design layout.

Personally I would focus a lot more on listbuilding and getting a clean design that keeps the content easy to read.

I agree Thesis is a great theme I have been using catalyst recently and just love the features bundled with this theme. I would say that neither Thesis or Catalyst themes are what a beginner should be using. I would suggest using the WordPress 2011 theme as it is easy to set up and stable, without any hidden scripts or links you might find in free theme.

    Hie,

Wordpress is the best for blogging. There are too many blog thmese available on the internet. You can integrate them as you want, it has very flixible customization options. Many thmese are well designed and also you can adjust social widgets in the theme.

The design is depends on the theme you used. I suggest is do not worry too much on the design. Just set up for website blog first. You can purchase new theme later.

Just go to Woo Themes and pick a dynamite theme ... or any other commercial theme builder. You don't need a custom theme to launch a blog. You can get one if you want to, but you could always get a custom theme done later. You can change the theme of a blog any time you want to.

As for changing the ads, it's normally done in the widgets area and you can change them any time you want to.
