Freelance Writer - How to go about teaming up with a website builder/designer?

I was thinking if it is at all viable as a freelance writer to team up with a website builder/designer so that we can piggyback of each others efforts when searching for clients?

For example there are projects where you need to produce a fully functioning website, however as a writer one could work with a website builder to get this project completed.

Is this type of collaboration easy to set up and how can one go about setting it up?

Thanks

Martin

By posting the offer in the JV sub-forum and seeing if you get any hits.

It is a viable way to get work. You can do what Terra said. You can also just do a search outside of the forum for Web designers. Then write a benefit-oriented email to them offering them your services. The benefit to them is that they can now offer both Web design and content. You're the content guy.

    • Not only is it possible, it is one of the best ways of getting steady work--especially from web designers/marketers who just don't have the time (or often ability) to do the writing themselves. Actually, I think a lot of web designers are under the mistaken impression that they can write well, when in fact their writing is riddled with grammatical errors and poorly phrased passages. (But maybe I am just being snobbish about my only talent.)

The one thing you have to be careful about is making sure you are getting paid enough. Because a lot of people think anyone can write, you may get underpaid by a lot of web designers. If you are good, you should be able to find some one who will pay you more than a couple of cents a word. Good luck!

It sounds very good as an idea, but you have to create a team with honest people who will not try to get your money. What I am trying to say is that you cannot find from one day to another the team to create such a site... Nowadays many freelancers want some fast money, don't let them get yours, from your work.

Yes I do agree that honesty is a vital aspect of a good business relationship. Such an attribute is difficult to judge from the "first impressions" period. I guess the longer you work with someone the more trusting you can be.
