Trolling YouTube for traffic is about to get much HARDER

News: YouTube Looking to Improve Comments System | eReviewGuide.com

The problem with YouTube comments, to be blunt, is that there is no accountability. Somebody could just make up a fake profile and just post all sorts of obnoxious garbage. This is a form of digital pollution that really ruins many people's enjoyment of otherwise stellar video content on YouTube. That is the root cause of the problem and it may turn out that may also be the source of the solution.
One way people promote on youtube is to troll highly popular videos to get channel clicks. While this works if you are tightly disciplined and your message doesn't erode your channel brand, a lot of people abuse the system and engage in flat out hate speech. Of course, this awakened Google to the extent of the problem.

Their solution? Kill 2 birds with one stone. Boost google + participation by requiring a tighter correlation between a person's Google + persona and Youtube identity. The logic? Most people won't go overboard if their regular persona is on the line. I am not so sure if this will work. Let's see how it all plays out.

Given the patterns I detect, a lot are using scripts. Probably not those clunky Markov chains used in spam but semi-automated scripts with fairly shallow logic trees and keyword cluster capture mechanisms. Sounds complicated but the output appears passable. Regardless, the footprint is unmistakable. The rest, it appears, is just funneling.

    Ohhhh noo.

Of course the one technique I find that works youtube will now try doing away with lol.

Should have known it would happen, I did NOT think it would happen literally 1 month after I started using youtube. I have like 50 accounts I use for internal commenting/links I don't troll or start fights just drop links on high traffic videos.

I guess I'll have to start building up google + accounts now too. =]

Interesting. It was really only a matter of time till they did something to clean up the commenting. Youtube has long been known for it's bottom of the barrel comments.
It is a bit unfortunate though, I've often found the comments on videos to be more entertaining than the video its self.

Google will do what it must to increase the user experience and revenue. So will Facebook especially because they are both publicly traded. So as marketers we must just adapt to the tactics that produce the most bang for the buck, whether it be paid traffic or good ol' fashioned elbow grease.

I for one am gonna miss the crazy comments lol. That's the first thing I look for when watching a video. As far as youtube for marketing though, it is a good thing! Just not the case on funny / non-marketing related videos.

Personally think that this is a pretty good idea.

Facebook opened up through it's API a few years ago to allow 'other' sites to allow users to comment using their Facebook logins'.

I would say it's worked. If you don't want to be publicly ridiculed, then don't say something stupid!

lol I hear ya. But to be fair to youtube, they have stepped up the quality of the service over the years. It has been the backbone of many online businesses through the years. Want custom filtered video content? Can't go wrong with YT. It is very flexible and has a solid hosting backbone.
