Very very true Tom, I actually lived what you are talking about and what happened for me was that my failures became my best coach. I learned what NOT to do over and over and over again. The key was that I pressed on and got up every time. My advise is to find someone who is already living your dream and model them. Your dream is real and they are living it and they have already carved the path for you.

It is always best to take the right action, next it is best to take the wrong action and lastly is no action. So, even with the wrong action, you're still one step ahead of the game because you probably learned something that will get you closer to the right action.

Lol alfid, yea I wrote that subject line intentionally in the hopes it would attract newbies and hopefully steer them in the right direction in becoming an action taker. Yes all the products are my own that I created from scratch. The niche that I am in is very, very small and obscure and when I started there were actually no digital products in the niche to be an affiliate for so I had to create my own.

An excellent post for those frustrated individuals who can't figure out why they are not making money.

Unfortunately it is true. You have to work long and hard before the going becomes easy. Yes, life does sometimes put nasty obstacles in your way, but you will just need to suck up and get on with it.

Above all, do not jump from one new project to the next, before completing the first. You don't have a hope in hell of succeeding at anything if you do not complete what you have started.

So true Sandy, it's in the guru's best interest to keep us confused and in a dream like buying state. Just like in medicine there's no money in a cure. What you have to do is focus and take action on building a foundation and then you can begin adding in shiny things and income streams.

I actually liked the "inertia" principle. But it is my understanding that to make money - you need to spend money. For something to work, it needs energy ... motion and yes - passion.

If only procrastinating can make us tons of money, but then I guess technology will soon teach us how. Or, has it already? But, any which way we look at it - and this is as universally acceptable a principle like gravity and inertia - we need to work our butts off to make money. We can't just sit around and do nothing, or let the software or machines do the slack for us. It's our hard work and ATTITUDE that can make us money.

Yes Sam, great addition to the post. When it comes down to it I don't care what IM tip, trick, technique or strategy you know unless your actually implementing it YOU WILL NOT MAKE ANY MONEY. Taking correct action and implementation is the difference between the "have's" (people who actually make money online) and the "have not's" (The people who don't). So get out there and start implementing what you know and take correct, consistant action and you will succeed!

Thanks for the inspiring post. I appreciate the time you took to do this. With being about to get married, having an infant and two older step kids and working full time sometimes I get frustrated when things just aren't working online. Finally I am completing projects I meant to years ago and putting myself into action. This will help me to stay bearing down on my challenges.

It takes a lot of hard work before I finally got my first sale.
A lot of people are misled by the word "autopilot". They must understand the hard work behind this autopilot. This is the reason why more than 95% of internet marketing failed to earn their first dollar on internet. They just keep spending money to buy product after product. And they do not take any action to achieve the stage of "autopilot".

We are the ones who know the hard work behind and we made it!

Yeah... I note that before one can engage the 'autopilot', someone has put a great deal of time and money into building the plane and the pilot has spent hundreds if not thousands of hours learning to fly it. It also doesn't work until the plane is already in the air.

So much of IM and MMO pushes this idea that once all that has happened, any old chump can go into the cockpit, sit in the big chair, hit that switch and lay back fat dumb and happy for the rest of the ride. Doesn't appear to work that way. Go figger.

Yes Alex so true, most IM'ers stay in a state of learning and confusion and never actually take action. and go on the ever so common buying spree which just makes the overwhelm and confusion worse. It really is a vicious cycle until you break yourself out of it and realize what really needs to be done to be successful... TAKING ACTION, stop learning and start doing!!!

Very very valid point on taking action and very good post!

Only thing I would point out is the hardest bit for any noon!......and that is following the right plan! Newbies need to learn to do what has worked for many and NOT to chase all the new fandango systems being preached on the wso threads! Stick to what has worked for some time, only take action on one project at a time and do tons of due diligence before committing your time on something!

the NSO syndrome (next shiny object) is very real, I agree.
But having the right tools is also important, so not all WSOs and products are a waste of time: having a spoon or a Cat industrial excavator at your disposal will give you different levels of efficiency for digging your way out of your problem...

Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to a change in its state of motion or rest, or the tendency of an object to resist any change in its motion. The principle of inertia is one of the fundamental principles of classical physics which are used to describe the motion of matter and how it is affected by applied forces. Inertia comes from the Latin word, iners, meaning idle, or lazy. Isaac Newton defined inertia as his first law in his Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica [source: wikipedia]

So it's all about your "inertia" state, people: if you're at rest, you will remain at rest (until you "rest in peace"? well, time does fly). If you're "in motion" like our friend mogulmap, you get revenue by "doing nothing" - which, of course, is just an optical illusion, as actually it's his inertia which brings him that revenue: he kicked himself from zero to a $100/week velocity, and now his new inertia does all the work. This is basic physics applied to IM.
Our real problem therefore is "how do we change our inertia state"? And changing the inertia state does require high energy expenditure: think of a satellite - putting it from ground level to geostationary orbit requites "a lot" of energy, but once it's in orbit, the energy required is about zero. How's that for a new perspective on this topic?

It takes a lot of money to hit the sweet spot of making money on autopilot, well significant money that is. Lead generation if you have what it takes to make it. When I ran one of the largest mortgage lead networks on the internet, I was at the point where I was at the movies making thousands. You all know the mortgage industry in the US crashed in 2007/2008, so going to the movies today, much different lol.

The OP has a good thing started and I wish him well. Our company is building some pretty great properties and solutions again and expect great results, most of the time it takes money to make money. So with that said I will leave you with this, don't pipe dream about making money while you sleep, work while you're awake, be smart, think your decisions through and sleep knowing you have done a great days work. The rest will fall into place.

Nice post I must say. The best thing anyone can do to help themselves is to take action and do it even now. Not taking action can cause bitter regrets!

Thanks for sharing your success. It is always good to know fellow warriors succeeding in their efforts..

As for as newbies goes, it is difficult , as long as one approaches internet marketing with a mindset of buiding a business then things change big time, for then you have stretegies and goals and you are prepared for failures

The issue is the promises of sales pages (pre - copywriting knowledge days) are too powerful to resist, and the biggest factor thats going to help one succes will be self discipline, WRITTEN goals, clarity in what they want and sticking to one thing and going about it in baby steps, then and then alone can any one be succesful, not only in I.M but in any part of life ...

Very well said, yes for most coming into IM they have the idea that internet marketing is "easy money" mostly from salespage overload. But once they get it in their head that it's a business just like any other business they will see some success.

Yes! - Action! Action! Action!

I would also add that as your first step in any project "write your goals out on paper". It's amazing how this first step begins to solidify your dreams into concrete. No longer are you merely daydreaming, but you actually have results you can see. WordPad is great for this, and then put the file into a project folder. (That's another thing - a project folder holding all files images, etc. related to your project kept readily available on your desktop can help keep you well organized.)

So remember:
Plan your work, then work your plan.
Also remember - a plan is not really a plan until it is down in writing.

The following example is over simplified, but it gets the idea across. Start with high level goals then under each major goal list sub-steps to work toward accomplishing the final goal.
1) Find a good niche and a good product.
2) Create a website to give out a free info gift and build your list.
A. Build a squeeze page.
B. Build a thank you page.
C. Build a download page.
3) Tie it to an autoresponder.
4) Drive traffic to your website to begin building your list.

You can start very simple and continue to build your plan as you work on your goals.

The earnings in the screenshot above are all made on autopilot with me having no part in it what so ever. The misleading part is that it actually did take A LOT of action and work to get it to this point. By no means is this intended to brag, I just wanted to show you that if I never stopped dreaming and started taking action this would have never happend. Every two weeks on autopilot there are clickbank checks in my mailbox because of the action and hard work that I took some time ago.

Taking action never stops either, because the more I tweak and optimize my sales funnels and the more products I add to my product line the more the numbers above will grow.

Time is the most precious commodity, it's the only thing in the world that you can't by more of and you can't buy back. Time moves very fast and if you don't take action today the years will soon fly by you like it did me and you will see yourself in the exact same position you are now the only difference is you now have even less time to accomplish your goals.

If you want tomorrow to be different then today then you have to do things differently. Start taking action today! You will get back what you put in!.

This just disproves what other aspiring IM think-that this area is all money. One must work hard at first in order to gain a level in which income is just steady flowing. However, one must not just stop there. There should be continuous improvement and learning.

Since were all using computers in doing this "business" lets just put it this way, a computer maybe turned into an automated machine that does all the work for us but remember, "garbage in, garbage out".

We need more of this on the forum. People get attacked everyday into believing that you can't make it online. I am a firm believer that what you want in your path you must be the one to put it there. The need for the right mind frame tends to pass people buy. They say I know, I have heard it it just isn't for me.
This post helps people to believe its possible and that is what we all need in life. Your dreams are attainable. You must take serious action to achieve them.

I just finished Dean Hollands Quick Start Challenge and this is exactly what we were taught. You need to invest your time and energy to build a viable business online that will eventually get you to the point where it runs on auto pilot and allows you to live the much sought after internet lifestyle. One where you are your own boss, you can take a vacation and go where you want when you want.

tg143 thats great, I havn't read that course but if he's teaching things like that then it must be good. Make sure you focus on that product and don't jump around to the next shiny thing and TAKE ACTION and implement everything you learn, that IS the secret to making money whether it be online, offline, on the moon wherever plain and simple.

Great Post and great comments here, absulutely you can make money, BUT IT TAKES a lot of time to get there and Hinestly I've been doing it but not by doing nothing, I do have a system in place that funnels leads and the rest goes down the pipe, but by doing nothing. Not even With a huge team or downline.

I do like interaction even some of my systems are on autopilot, but Like to interact with people and Online too.

When I got started it took me a while to make my first penny, but once you learn the ropes, you don't have to be a genious to make a decent income and have a Lifestyle!.

Automation MAY NOT BE ALL, Interaction is MORE..

Very Very true Jamie, you have to continue taking action. I just stopped taking action on this site to show how effective intial action is and the momentum it can create. If you want to continue to grow you must continue to take action, that it was I am constantly optimizing sales pages, creating products and optimizing my sales funnel. It's funny because I can literally change a word or two or a color and boom conversions double.

Great post, makes the point that although it is perfectly possible to earn a passive income through IM you do need to put in a lot of hard work and effort to get your business to that state, and this is something that many people don't realize- they expect the money to come straight away.

Hey Lucky, yea I agree I think our minds are just so filled with salespage copy and in a dream like state that you forget that it takes alot of work to succeed. We see athletes and movie stars and say oh how nice their lives are but in reality we didn't see the years and years of training, all the way from playing ball in grade school, junior high, high school and college. Or how many times these actors were denied roles and pushed aside and told they weren't good enough but continued to audition for roles anyway until you come accross the one that makes you. It's just like us IM'ers first we have to get our minds right and get out of learning mode and into action mode then we work on project after project, failure after failure. We could quit and vanish into obscurity or we can learn from those failures and tweak the action we take and we hit our home runs that make us.

The point is to believe that you are in fact good enough and take action to achieve your goals and dreams.

Yep making money by doing nothing is the way to go for sure!

I am currently at the stage where I am rolling up my sleeves and taking massive action to get the content out their and get the daily lead count on the rise...but the more consistently this is done over the time the more content that is out there to get traffic on autopilot and the more it gets to the region of making money by doing nothing!

But, yep, working like a madman for a bit first helps get to that stage!

Thanks for sharing. I have to admit that I had procastinate for long before I really hit my butt and get started. But once I get started, Im so motivated by my own goals, and suddenly I felt that I had direction in life, no longer as aimless as before.

Very true NezNez, what I have found is that those same "feel-good" endorphines that keep you high and in that dreaming like state of wealth when you read salespages are the same when you actually take action and see results.

Below you will see an actual clickbank screenshot from just one of my products (I currently have 4 and working on a fifth),

The earnings in the screenshot above are all made on autopilot with me having no part in it what so ever. The misleading part is that it actually did take A LOT of action and work to get it to this point. By no means is this intended to brag, I just wanted to show you that if I never stopped dreaming and started taking action this would have never happend. Every two weeks on autopilot there are clickbank checks in my mailbox because of the action and hard work that I took some time ago.

Taking action never stops either, because the more I tweak and optimize my sales funnels and the more products I add to my product line the more the numbers above will grow.

Time is the most precious commodity, it's the only thing in the world that you can't by more of and you can't buy back. Time moves very fast and if you don't take action today the years will soon fly by you like it did me and you will see yourself in the exact same position you are now the only difference is you now have even less time to accomplish your goals.

If you want tomorrow to be different then today then you have to do things differently. Start taking action today! You will get back what you put in!.

Internet Marketing is not something you can achieve results overnight. You need to do it consistently to drive results. Find the niche that you want to go into, get on it, and do it.

It depends on whether you WANT to do it or NOT.
The beginning is always the hardest part.

G'day,

Great attention grabbing headline. Autopilot is a somewhat misleading term that is thrown about, yet like you say taking action is key and once your there Manualpilot becomes Autopilot...or at least PartialAutoPilot!

Thanks for a great " heads-up" but you are selling yourself short. Your website could never run by itself, it is being run by all the initial work you put in to get it to autopilot.

This is so true..

From my experience it's like thinking like a farmer. When he plants a seed in the ground he is 99% sure he will reap a harvest in 9-10 months. He isn't going to quit farming if he doesn't see the crop grown in 1 month. He has to water it daily and take care of the land to ensure his success

Perfect example Thomas, I would alo like to add that if that farmer planted more crops then he could take care of then they would all die as well, so focus on one plant at a time.

Many im'ers have 100 projects 50% complete instead of 1 project 100% complete. Don't bounce around from one shiny thing to the next, focus on one and "water" it daily and it will grow into a full blown business for you.

Take action in your life and business and your dreams will follow!
