Feeling a little down but pushing forward.

Hey guys,

I am feeling a little down this last couple of weeks. My book had been doing great. I had been selling a book for about every 70 hits which I was loving. I have even sold more than one in a day a couple of times.

Most my sells are mine alone but I did have a couple of affiliates that have made multiple sells as well. So I was feeling pretty good. Sells were increasing and I thought I had finally done it.

Then July hit and I have not made a sell in two weeks. Now a year ago I wouldn't have been discouraged by this but now I am like what the heck happened?

I had an emergency appendectomy in June and was in the hospital for a few days. So, I have to admit that I didn't get much done in the way of seo marketing last month but I didn't know it would have this big of an impact on my sells.

I have slacked off before and it didn't seem to make that much difference. I also have to admit that my site does not normally get that much traffic. I have not been the best about getting more traffic.

So at the beginning of July I decided that I was going to stick to a good routine of improving my traffic. I said from here on out I have to do at least 3 things a day to drive traffic. I really wanted to improve my sells beyond what they had already been. My goal was to double my sales.

So, I have been working super hard. Writing articles, started a Facebook fan page, a Tweeter and all the little things I hadn't done yet. Now I know that this stuff takes time to marinate and see the results. I wasn't expecting quick results but not having a sell in two weeks really has me upset. I just don't understand. My traffic is actually up for once I should be making a sell.

So has anyone else had a dry spell from their books? I am going to keep pushing forward and I am not giving up. I know the book sells when put in front of the right audience. I believe if I had enough targeted traffic I could really be living my dream but this month is just so discouraging.

I am really just looking for some encouragement here. Thanks for reading my pitty party.

I can't really speak about books/sells, but I can speak out dryspells. They happen, for me it has been for traffic. The internet can't be predicted, but you must also keep it consideration that some weeks/months people don't buy stuff, or even surf. Sometimes things seem dead. You might think you're doing something wrong, but it's just how things are. Yeah you took a break, but that is actually a short time, and it shouldn't hit you that hard. Sometimes things are just dead and you can't help it.. Just keep pressing on. Good luck!

    Hi friend,

Take it easy. You have good progress. Some people do not even earn his first dollar from internet.

I was very down until I got my first sale which is USD1000 at Flippa for my golf website.
I have full confidence about my methods and work hard to duplicate my working methods to get more sales.

Never give up! Persistent and keep trying! Put strong emphasize on the working methods and duplicate to get more profit. You can make it!

I do love this forum and have found great information and inspiration here. I don't post that often but it is so nice to have a place to talk about these things that my family and friend simply do not understand. There are some great people here and thank you all for the much needed encouragement.

      Hi HH,

Summertime seems to slow many (not all, of course) digital product sales.

More people are spending time outside or on vacation or with family, and may not be thinking as seriously about your product as at other times.

The important thing is to recognize that the sales slowdown is not as a result of you doing or not doing certain things (not your fault) and that it IS likely as a result of seasonal changes in traffic, conversion of that traffic and people's "buying moods".

The best thing to do is what you've been doing - keep plugging along and building your traffic so that at some point, you will have the income you are working towards.

At the same time, keep thinking of new products you can add to your "catalog" so that your existing customers can buy more from you in the future!

(oh yeah, and having an email list is critical! Check that squeeze page video out that I mentioned in your other post - it will help)

That's what I was thinking, too. It's good to keep driving traffic and getting sales for your existing book, but your success lies in your next book.

If you haven't already started on a second one, I would suggest taking some time each day toward that goal.

Also, I am assumong you have an email list of people who have purchased your current book, but if not, you need to find a way to make that happen as well. That way you will have some sure sales when your next title is ready.

The other advantage of having more than one book is that you can cross-promote them, and you can do from within each book itself.

Other than that, hang in there. You have already done much more than the vast majority of people will ever do.

        All the best,
        Michael

It's okay, especially since there are a lot of people having the same struggles you're in because of the Google updates (including me). Sounds like you've got a plan and usually that is enough to cheer up people. Remember "the night is darkest just before the dawn" - Harvey Dent.

If you are getting traffic great. That traffic is clearly not converting so you have one problem to deal with before all other including fanpages, seo, twitter, articles.

If you are getting traffic but not converting what does that mean?

Your sales page is not affective.

I understand your position but you must be strategic and not fall for the trappings of so many.

Every ounce of time you have must be invested in improving your sales page now.

Then when you get more traffic you get more conversions too.

    Hope you heed the advice.

    Thanks

July, August, the summer months when kids are out of school this kind of business is down in general. Is your book an e-book? are you selling it on Amazon or electronic means?

One thing I have noticed about the stats on my blog are the hits I am now getting from ipads, iphones, and other electronic means. So you might think about working into those mediums if you haven't already.

so if the book in question is your Herbal Hound one, then you are right to ask about squeeze pages, I saw you ask about this in a new thread.

You can offer a sample chapter, or small report for free when people sign up to your list.
Then you send a set of emails which promote and tell them more about the book.

It allows you to warm them up more before going straight into the sale, and will increase conversions. It also means you can promote other products/books as well.

You can set this up and then test between the squeeze page and straight sales page to see which brings better results for the same number of visitors.

      Hope that helps,
      Gordon

I can see seo is your thing however have you tried doing a small solo ad or even some adswaps. As someone mentioned earlier are you capturing your subscribers emails as the potential for marketing long term could straighten things out.

  • If we are honest, we have all probably felt like this at one point or another. I worked on a project for 2 years once and it produced lackluster results. It was tough to take and I had to work at getting over it, but with what the OP is saying, things will probably be good again soon. The more books you get out there, the more products you come up with, will eventually keep you hopping year around. Everything is seasonal and based on the economy, but still there is money to be made, so keep your chin up the world has not stopped working, maybe they are simply on a coffee break.
