Newb Question About Subscription & Email

I am almost embarassed to ask this cuz it reveals my total my greenness but I need to get a handle on it, so here goes:

Aweber seems to be the most popular recommendation for an autoresponder, (which i have gathered will allow you to collect subscriber's emails and send newsletters/digests/offers.) If that is the case, what do people then use email services like Mailchimp, Sendgrid, iContact etc. for?

I know this is uber basic, but i need to figure out if I need two separate services or just one. [Classic scenario btw: I am doing a blog and want to build a list and relationships so I can market a few things to my people down the road]

Can somebody explain or refer me to a link that helps a newb out about basic subscriber and email stuff.

Thanks and hope you're having a great week!

Aweber used to be pretty universally accepted as the best but in the past several months their service has dropped of. People are looking for the next best thing - a lot of folks have moved over to GetResponse.

Mailchimp and iContact HATE affiliate marketers - I won't use them. People use those services for the same reason except they are cheaper than Aweber - but you do tend to pay in quality for the lower price.

I'm about to check out GetResponse myself, I've had it with both Aweber and Imnica (top and Bottom of the price plans really and they both stink)

I have also seen some mention of Subscribe2, but mostly for regular blogs, not IM stuff.

Yeah if you aren't going to go with the main two - Aweber or GetSesponse - you really need to research customer feedback on how they handle marketer emails. ConstantContact is another one I have heard doesn't really like markters.

Haven't heard of Subscribe2 myself though, but I'd do my due diligence research before spending an money anywhere. Determine your needs - and don't get a bigger list size than you need yet - waste of money. You can always expand later with your list.

I have built a list 300 strong (or weak, interpret it as you must) and have only used Aweber. I do see any reason to need anything else from any other email marketing company.

Strong, 300 Strong. Positive thinking breeds bigger lists

Apparently discussing actual customer service experiences with details is a no no so let me keep this GENERAL for the audience.

I will just say here - I have had EXTREMELY bad experience with Imnica, so my advice to any newbies would be to avoid them like the plague. Since you are asking about ARs.

Please PM me the bad experience you had. I have no issue with you posting it here in the thread, but, as you mentioned, that never goes down well.

I can see we have lost you already as a customer, would just like to know what the issue was so we may be able to fix it for future customers.

The most positive thing about aweber is that it understands the mindset of an affiliate marketer.

They work hard to ensure that the people who fill in your form get your messages. I've been with them since 2006 and having done client work with other companies they are by far the easiest to install on your website and then customize / integrate with membership scripts.

Normally when someone falls out of love with a particular autoresponder it's because they've been promoting something which is black hat or triggers spam alerts based on the url being promoted.

Assuming you have a proper marketing funnel in place you will soon find that the leads you generate will pay for the service, and if they don't then you need to re-evaluate what you're trying to achieve.

Going with smaller companies is a bad idea, go to a company who has experience.. Aweber and GetResponse are the two big ones at the moment if you ask me.
