Kyeword Research Question

How would you go about doing proper keyword research on a new subject that you might want to build a big authority site for.

I want to make sure it's gonna be worth the effort so how would you figure that out by doing keyword research, like what are the minimum searches a month needed so you can see the subject is in de mand and people are interested?

can someone give me some pointers or at least point me in teh right direction ?

thanks

Well personaly this is what I do. I use googles keyword tool and set searches for USA as thats the country im targeting then i set searches so that more than 1600 show up. I look at the trends to to see when the big spikes were.

You could use market samurai in the mean as a free trial as that can kick start you in the right direction.

    Enjoy

first of all, start with a subject you're interested in. then, write a couple of articles. write without thinking too much about search engines.

then, print it out, and highlight phrases and words you think people might be searching for. then, go to the Google AdWords tool and input these phrases. look at the search volumes/competition and look at what Google suggests. choose the optimum phrases/words. now you have a set of keywords which relate to at least one of your articles.

this is good because it allows you to contextually find valuable search terms without letting "SEO" hinder your creativity too much. it also means that you'll have at least one piece of content ready for publishing.

    give it a go!

When I first started I focused on developing sites that had at least 2000 [exact] match monthly searches. These days, I focus on much more, as my ability to rank said sites has greatly increased.

Lower searched keywords are attractive because they have lower competition most of the time.

If you are thinking of a developing a site and want to know if there is a "search" demand then head over to the Google Keyword Tool and enter the most popular keywords for the topic in mind.

Remember to filter to [exact] matches and see what your results are.

Lastly, just because there is no "search" demand, doesn't mean that your niche is a dud. I built my biggest list through forum marketing, for search terms that to this day only get between 900 and 2000 [exact] global monthly searches per month.
