Getting A Mentor And Getting A Grip

Hi warriors,

I recently acquired the services of a mentor in the IM Idustry, and a very very successful one at that. I then realised that most of the thing's we've covered and I've received help with, I ALREADY KNEW!!

But having the mentor there watching over me, finally made me take action and I've made more progress in the last month than all the time wondering about on my own.

I'm sure plenty of us on here have mentors or someone who helps us along the way so my advice, if you don't have one you'd better go find one!!!

I'd love to hear what other people think about having a mentor.

All the best
Stuart

Through the years I have had several mentors and each one have left me with some valuable insight on the things they have taught me. A couple of them did teach me things I already new, but they taught me to look at it a different way or approach it from a different angle. Without some of the mentors in my life I would not be where I'm at today.

Getting a mentor back in the day definetly helped me to take action - but while I was being mentored I didn't actually make that much money.

My first decent lump of money with IM was sorta' "lucky" - it was a happy accident. But, that gave me the confidence I needed to take my business where I wanted it to go.

I never had a mentor at that time and only had one for a couple of weeks about six months ago - just realised he was teaching me crap I already knew.

All this 'mentors are essential' crap, I don't really buy. They can push you in the right direction though and I would go as far as suggesting that if you haven't made money online in like 3-4 months then you should get one.

Coaching is great and can really help people that like to learn that way - but in my opinion is isn't an essential to taking your business to the next level.

It's not the same as coaching but I love paid for forums.

A mentor, a business sytem that is proven to work, has helped me tremendously.

A lot of people struggle online because they don't follow a system, or if they create a system on their own they don't have a team. This was the key for me.

I am a believer in mentors and have used them in the past in unrelated businesses. I would welcome an information on where to find good mentors for my IM business
    Thanks

Having A Mentor Is Definitely The Difference Between Doing Nothing And Finally Taking The Action Needed If You Really Want to Succeed!

I Have One, And I Reccomend You Get One Too,Especially If You Are Skeptical!

I couldn't agree more with you. The day i joined a mentoring program was the day everything changed for me. Well, not the same day, but you get my point. With so much information out there, it can be difficult to rise above the noise sometimes. I guess that's a problem many people have these days.

Finding a mentor has helped me with almost every aspect of my life. I was lucky enough to find a mentor at a young age (second year of college), who was not even in the IM field, and the things he taught me stay with me and have been very helpful in creating my own business and succeed at a young age. Smart people surround themselves with people who are better than themselves. Finding a good mentor is very difficult though...especially in IM.

And so it begins. Mentors generally don't know anything beyond "advanced newbie" level knowledge. If you are a total complete newbie they may be worth the time saving investment, but I wouldn't recommend it since learning, building and learning more is such a long term effort anyway. Another thing is that since mentors are a form of lifetime newbie, they can't point you in the right long term direction.

Similar to having a gym buddy.

I wouldn't advocate paying a mentor (which is really just the dreaded "guru" that is more one-on-one) just to push you along.

A FREE alternative is to look right here on WarriorForum for an accountability partner. Show one another your work and be honest in your critiques. A friendly rivalry may even develop. That, to me, would push you more than paying some guy that really isn't much better off than you are in the big picture of things.

    Dubdub,

You couldn't be more wrong, but entirely your opinion, I would much rather ask Tiger Woods how to improve my golf swing than my weekend golfing buddies.

And the idea behind a mentor isn't to teach you how to install wordpress etc, but how to RUN A SUCCESSFUL online business and teach/develop the skills to become a better marketer, but what you say makes sense regarding the accountability partner.

    Each to his own!!

    All the best
