Hey guys,

If you are generating more than 5000 visitors a month to your website, if you don't mind me asking can you tell me which is your traffic source?

Thanks

Social Media, SEO, Return Visitors, RSS feed, and third party websites. I think that order is right.

I was doing that for a time, but then things changed. I was primarily getting search engine traffic.

I need to diversify and evolve my strategy.

Never underestimate the power of establishing in the mind of your readers that your site should be their "go to" site for a particular subject matter.

Yahoo Answers - great for targeted traffic, and because answers rank well in the search engines, the traffic really builds up over time.

Social media is killing it for me these days once I figured out how to actually tap into it, I still get quite a bit of traffic from the engines but nowhere near as much as I used to.

Thanks guys..Looks like most of you are using social media. By social media do you mean twitter, facebook, youtube tec.?

I am lookin in PPC and that sort of paid traffic (media buying etc.). SEO per me has some learning curve and may take 1-2 months, if not more, to get good traffic. Also, google is changing their ranking system regularly.

But, keep sharing your traffic sources. Always great to know whats working.

About 80% of my traffic sources come from SEO and Social Media. I have noticed quite a bit of jump from Web 2.0 networks as well recently though.

It's all free traffic (my favourite!) but the problem with free traffic is it takes ages to build up.

      Forum posting
      Blog commenting
      Social media
      Paid blog placements

I've said this a number of times but nobody seems to pick up on it. If you want other people to promote your site for free, write about people. If you use their social networks, you don't have to build one of your own, plus the reference has more authority if it comes from someone other than you.

I have a gaming site that gets more hits than that a day and it doesn't make a dime.

I haven't figured out how to monetize the traffic. I'm really thinking about CPA and maybe a content locker.

Maximum traffic come from Google, then Social Media like Facebook, Twitter and G+. Also I get traffic from yahoo answer but it is not much.

Blog Commenting and Forums also bring good amount of traffic for me.

SEO has been my busiest source of traffic over the past 14 years, but email marketing has had the greatest conversion rates. AdWords helps to run split tests quickly, but is the most expensive and most short-lived method of promotion I use.

AdWords or Email if I need results _NOW_ (then nothing after). SEO if I need results 'forever' (but I can wait a couple of weeks/months to get there).

Without SEO or AdWords, I wouldn't have an email list nearly as large as I do.

Interesting responses to be honest..Very few people in paid traffic. And equally surprising to hear that so many people are finding social media to be their main source of traffic.

I tried social media in the past, but found effort to traffic ratio was very less.

Does anyone of you generate paid traffic by any chance?
