I would really appreciate your advice here

Hello guys, I would like to make some changes to my website. It would me awesome if you could give me some advice.

First - My blog is located at mydomain.com/blog folder and I would like to move all that content to my root directory, that means I would have to some redirects (I thinks is 301, correct me if I´m wrong). How do I do that from wordpress??

Second - I´m going to change the whole look of the website and I will be using a new theme. It would be awesome if you could recommend a theme that has the following characteristics:
  1. It has clean coding for SEO purposes
  2. Minimalist design
  3. It hast to load fast
  4. It has to be easy to customize (Through Dashboard), I wouldn´t mind to get my heands dirty with the code but there are themes arround that are just too complicated.
  5. I don't mind if it is a free or premium theme, if it makes my life easier I´ll pay for it!

I have used the free version of Flexibility, but I guess it makes my site load slower.

I have read lots of good things of Catalytic theme, can somebody give me some feedback about it?

Third - I have read that All-In-One SEO Pack is the best plugin for SEO. I have also read that YOAST is the best. I have even read people using both! Is that reasonable? Which one would you advise?

Fourth - Is there a way to make the home page look different form the rest of the pages (wordpress of course)? I would like the home page to be three columns and the rest of the pages and posts to be two columns.

Thanks to all

Marcos

    Hey Marcos,

Here are my experiences with your questions...

For redirects, there is a WordPress plugin called "Redirect" that simply allows you to incorporate redirects within the Custom Fields section of your page or post. You just select 'redirect' for the name and then type in the URL you want to redirect to for the value. This may not be the best option if you have several redirects, so perhaps others will have a better solution to this.

For WordPress themes, I personally use the paid premium version of Flexibility: Flexsqueeze. Very easy to customize without much coding and from my experience, it's great for SEO. I have not experienced slow loading issues... and unfortunately don't know much about Catalytic theme.

Don't have much experience with YOAST as I have always exclusively used All-in-One SEO Pack, and it is the plugin we recommend to our clients.

And one option for making your home page have different columns may just depend on the flexibility of the theme. But, perhaps the following plugin will do?

    Easy Columns WordPress Plugin

    Hope this helps.

I have to redirect everything on that folder. I don´t know why you say this is not a good option for several redirects. I guess I could try it.

I have always used All-In-One SEO Pack too, but I have seen people talk wanders about YOAST. That makes me curious.

I am just not sure (when you have a big move like this) if there is a better solution than setting up redirects for each and every separate page/post as this will be time-extensive. BUT, for simple redirects, that plugin does the job just fine.
