Marketing to developers

I recently joined a company that deals mainly with developers, from front end to mobile. I have had a hard time targeting them and hit a brickwall as I cant seem to get through. Developers hate "marketing" talk is what I have learned so far. So any advice would be highly appreciated on how to target this niche market.

What are you trying to sell them? I can't imagine what someone would be selling to me only knowing that I'm a developer.

The general idea is they are a no-BS kind of people. Can you benefit them in some way, yes or no?

Everything you know about marketing still applies, it's just a bit harder to "get" what constitutes a benefit to a developer.

When you sell something to a marketer, you sell the end result that they get and ignore the details because they don't care.

When you sell to a developer, the benefits are things like how easy it will be to integrate into their current set up, how flexible it'll be in the future when they need something unforseen and how easy it is to bend to their will.

There's an age old marketing saying, "People don't buy drills, they buy holes". Well that's true for most people just not for developers. Geeks of all kinds (No offence intended, I'm an alpha geek!) don't buy holes, they buy drills. They want to know that the drill not only drills the holes they want today but has every possible drill bit for holes next week. They want to know that it comes with converters and adapters that meet industry standards so drill bits that are yet to be made will work with it. They want the power adapter to work in any country. They want the grip to work right and left handed so they can lend it to their brother.

Of course, don't forget to sell the holes to them too!
