Who knows rentacoder.net

The owner is trying to sell it to me. Didn't rentacoder.net use to be a popular freelancer website for programmers? Or am I thinking of something else?
How many people know rentacoder.net?

Josh, you might be thinking of rentacoder.com, which is now known as vWorker.

Rent a Coder: We've changed our name to vWorker!

Edit: Wait, I just realized that rentacoder.net redirects to vWorker as well.

That does not mean a thing. Be careful.

rentacoder.net not the same as rentacoder.com : checking whois, they are completely separate listings for the admin/owner info.

Furthermore, checking the wayback internet archive machine, there's an interesting pattern to it's history:
domain seems to have started as a mock hosting company or some form of hosting reseller, then was parked for some time, then had some "for sale, make offer" type of domain parking page up, THEN was forwarded to rentacoder.com, parked again with "make offer", forwarded again, parked again/etc...

My speculation is: the individual purchased based on the rising popularity of rentacoder.com, and just simply forwards it when he contacts prospects. They see it is "basically" the same as rentacoder.com, and (he hopes), buy it at some ridiculous price...

So, again, speculation on my part, but it seems that he is just trying to "jack up" the price based on the .com popularity, although I do not think they are related at all.

IF you make a buying decision, make the decision based on standard keyword research/search volume, and traffic potential to the .NET, not the .COM. Be suspect of earnings claims, as the domain has simply been parked for sometime and there has not been a "real" site on it for some time. Don't be 'wowed' that it is forwarded to the .com : I can do that with any domain (my 2 cents, is that unless you put a lot of work into SEO'ing that bad-boy, it's probably not worth what that person will inevitably ask for it.)

You're absolutely right, great point. I should have been clear to point out that just because a .net redirects somewhere, it doesn't mean that this person also owns the .com. I could buy a domain and redirect it to Google.

Sadly, I think it's likely that JaRyCu is right on this one. Either way, do your homework thoroughly before sending money anywhere!

all good advice. Vworker is an excellent site. I get jobs from there myself and I know they would not sell such a profitable site. So if you're looking at an imitation, RUN>>> don't walk. and don't take your hand off your wallet.

Rentacoder.net and Rentacoder.com are not the same thing! Be careful about that.

RentaCoder is now called Vworker, as somebody already mentioned.

Ian, the owner of Vworker.com, has made it clear on several occasions that he is not going to be selling his website to anyone. This is most definitely a scam!

    Cool.
I am the owner of this domain.
It is moniker.com / snapnames.com "feature": send less or more targeted emails when domain is in auction.

Call (813) 908-9029 and ask for Ian Ippolito. He is the owner of RentACoder..com, now vWorker.com. I know him personally and if he's trying to sell I can assure you he wouldn't be calling random people on the phone. It's a snap fpr the owner of rentacoder.net to redirect to vWorker or RentACoder.com.

Tell him Lisa_G sent you :-)

I remember seeing this thread when it first started. Just to note, at the time rentacoder was trademarked, but it appears that trademark is dead now.
