Young internet marketing amateur, looking for direction

Hi all. I'm new to the forum (1st post). I'm 23, with very basic skills pertaining to internet marketing/social media marketing, and I'm in looking for some mentorship from you seasoned vets thanks in advance!

My experience in social media marketing is just tip of the surface. For roughly 8 months I've been managing a fellas twitter page / facebook page / and scouring reddit to feed his articles across as many social media streams as possible. Pretty basic stuff, and this internship is ongoing.

Within the next month, I will be interning with my uncles chiropractic firm, and will be put in charge of everything social media (facebook, twitter, google+, linkedin, etc.) I will be starting from scratch, and the duration of my internship will be 3 months. My main goal is to use this opportunity to increase my social media / internet marketing expertise, so that it will open more opportunities down the road.

I plan on purchasing a basic version of hootsuite to record analytics and to keep everything organized. Do you guys recommend any other software or programs to record analysis / measures social media influence?

Any social media entrepreneurs recommend any beginners guide info-products? Tips?

What blogs / websites do you guys follow to stay up to date on everything social media?

I also want to dabble in website design. So I can create tabs, install twitter and facebook buttons on the website, etc. Is this a daunting task for someone who has no experience with web-design or code?
