Thinking of making a blog

Hello guys,

I wanted to make my very own website blog. I don't know what the domain name is yet, but I don't want it to be some sort "keyword" or "niche" base blog.

I'm aiming for an informative blog and helps my visitors.

The question, will I be able to drive in quality traffic?

I've seen quality blogs with the "Author's name" as the domain address and they rank really well within the Alexia ranking system and they get quality traffic everyday.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    You can rank almost anything these days if you follow the right strategies. If you are just wanting to create a blog that helps people, then what do you want to help people with? How are you going to promote this blog? In other words, you say you don't want a niche blog, but to allow your visitors to understand what you are going to help them with you would about have to create one.

    To be able to drive traffic from the search engines you are going to have to pick keywords to rank up for, so in a sense you would be picking a niche right there.

    I think it would take a looong time to rank for just something so broad.

    Actually any domain name will rank well as long as you have quality and unique contents but of course you need to do some backlinking works like feed submission, commenting etc.

    Any blog with good unique content will get traffic. Not in one or two days but with patience you will get it. A quick layout of what you will need to do.

    -Choose a niche that is not too broad but not to narrow.
    -Make a few initial posts on the site, from 3 to 5
    -Submit the site to RSS directories and blog directories
    -For each post, it will be good if you focus on a keyword (an easy one) for which you want to rank.
    -Do article marketing or other forms of link building to promote your posts
    -Post comments on related blogs pointing to your site
    -Post on forums related to your topic and in your signature point to your site
    -Do at least 2 new posts per week repeating the promotion process
