How do I get traffic to my killer blog post?

I just wrote a killer blog post for my client. He is a personal injury attorney. The post post is detailed and provides in depth information about various laws that relate to personal injury. I need to send as much targeted real human visitors to his site within a 3 week time frame. What do you guys recommend I do?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestions, I know the backlinks will be good for seo. I guess I could even use scrapebox to get comments and backlinks links also. Good points.

Do like a lot of PI lawyers do - buy the traffic. PPC, banners, video ads, etc. Not to mention TV, radio and print media.

Here in Florida, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a PI lawyer.

I'm waiting for the day when they start setting up shop in the waiting rooms of local ERs...

Most of the suggestions in this thread were good ones except for the time constraint. Start a Twitter account, build your followers to a critical mass, gain their trust and promote this blog post in three weeks?

Buying PPC is the only answer that makes sense. Even that isn't perfect because it takes time to refine an AdWords campaign by testing ads and keywords.

The takeaway here is that most traffic methods take time and sustained effort to build. Hey, if it was quick and easy everybody would be doing it.

Fluffy is right. Using Posterous as I recommend save a lot of time but 3 weeks is a very short period to get results from social media.

I agree on using PPC for testing purposes and to start getting traffic. Once you know what works and what doesn't it's possible to refine the SEO work the anchor text of the link building campaign.

In addition, the content on the website is essential. The more content, the better. Many clients do not provide content and expect results.

Work twitter hashtags. Try retweet exchanges. Also, there are many legitimate online legal blogs you can comment on with a link to your blog post. Let's just hope by "killer blog post" you mean ACTUALLY USEFUL CONTENT because if you're going to just promote a keyword-stuffed article that few people would want to share with their friends you might just be fighting an uphill battle.

Great stuff that you have some valuable content to share, which should make things much easier.

A press release using a Google News approved distribution platform such as PRWeb, Sbwire, or Webwire should hopefully get a nice influx of traffic if relevant niche keywords are integrated into an eye catching headline.

And you can post the link on Twitter using hashtags to make your keywords visible. Such as #Legal and #PersonalInjury and #Law etc. as that means that people who subscribe to be alerted when those keywords pop up in Google will more easily find your link, even if they are not directly following you.

    1) Do PPC on "personal injury" keywords in your city

    2) Set him up on Google Places

    3) Run some Youtube videos and rank them high in the search engines

    4) Make sure his/her business card has a link to their website

It's all going to take time buddy!

PPC might be your fast route though, but you'll have to watch it.

If the article is so good, then you should be proactively seeking out syndication partners.

Seek out sites in that niche, and see if you can negotiate with the webmasters to contribute content to those sites.

As was mentioned above, you could set up accounts for this client in different social media sites. If you have the budget, you can set up a “Promote Post” campaign in Facebook which is relatively cheaper than their normal ad rate. Promoting a post can cost as low as $10 for one week. Alternatively, you can share it from your profile or a fan page.

Another option is to create unique variations of this post for article directory sites. Make sure to focus your efforts on high ranking and reputable article directory sites. In the ‘byline’ section, provide all relevant author information including the link to the blog post.

Be sure that each change of the article preserves the integrity of the original. If the truth is that only "some" people do "x," don't modify to say that "most" people do "x." Make sure the content is still solid so there are no mistakes for people to spot, and more importantly so that nobody is misinformed

You can buy traffic but I'd query whether it really will be as targeted as many traffic sellers claim. Even if you only pay $1 for 1,000,0000 visitors its not good value if none of them convert so be wary of going down this route. Only do small test campaigns to start with and use a fraud traffic auditing tool!

I would think that driving traffic with engaged audience through social media will be far more effective - both in terms of results and costs.

Warning Before You Buy Traffic – Make sure you’re using a fraud detection tool to flag any fraud/fake traffic. Fraud can be as high as 30%+ even with so called reputable ad-networks. Works on all media buys incl. banners, pops etc.

If your post is truly an educational post about personal injury law, you have practically no chance of it going viral. Why would anyone share this post with their friends? Who would find this interesting? The only people who would organically find the post are those with a personal injury question themselves, and how many of them are likely to know people who need the same information? I'm a lawyer and even I don't read this stuff just to kill time.

Your post would be "killer" if it was only tangentially related to a legal issue (enough so that it fits in on a lawyer's website), but was on a topic that everyone would relate to or be interested in. Maybe a short story about someone who got screwed by a tort reform cap or how a lawsuit made a business change its evil ways would be a better approach to draw traffic. Of course, this traffic won't be people looking to hire a lawyer, but you said your goal was page views, not targeted traffic.

I have a friend who is suing some local strip clubs over their classification of the strippers as independent contractors. A story about that would be cool for an employment law website, as it could give a behind the scenes look at how strip clubs operate while still being relevant to a lawyer's site.

PPC is the only way you're going to get eyes on that page, IMHO. Social networking isn't great for driving traffic for the personal injury niche.

I agree with this approach. I have a client who is an attorney as well. I suggested he link to relevant articles on major Law Blogs. He did and received 7000 visits in 3 days (up from 25 - 30 visits a day prior) when they linked back to him. BTW - it was the Above the Law: A Legal Web Site

It took a few blog posts before it happened.

Also, things don't go viral because you want them to. I hate it when a client thinks they can just create content and "make" it go viral. It's such a pet peeve I wrote 2 blog posts about it backed by research - here and here

      Good luck.

I have to agree with this here. You'll probably be wasting a lot of time if you try to get it to go viral with social media.

I think buying traffic is your best bet but maybe people could help you more if you told us what the goal of all this traffic is? I mean does your client just want to see his stats jump up, or does he want a bunch of comments, opt-ins????????

While the domain name is not the be all and end all, it does matter. If you're starting out, branding will be a challenge since there may be sites talking about your niche now. I recommend choosing a 'search-engine friendly' domain name which I think you already have done. I also heard that even with the algorithm updates, EMD owners are still doing well. Remember to keep the domain short, catchy and limit the use of hyphens and other unnecessary characters.

Tie your post to a story in the media. Contact journalists who covered that story previously to pitch your post. Start with local media and work your way up.

    I recommend you read:

    David Meerman Scott's "Newsjacking"

It's how I got coverage on a recent post for one of my blogs. It received over 13,000 visits, >11K unique visitors and >16K pageviews. It also got mentioned on major websites like Forbes, TechCrunch, Mashable, Wired, Reuters, etc.

Article Marketing, Squidoo, Hubpages, Video Marketing, Social Media - These tools will definitely drive real traffic to your post where you have published it.

Getting traffic on your business page also does matters if it is really designed to look professional, elegant & have a crystal clear effect on the reader's mind. So take into consideration that also.
