The cost of a domain and hosting (I use Hostgator) is very minimal. In the $20 startup range of course.

There are also free blog alternatives such as Squidoo, Weebly and Blogspot .... I actually started out a long time ago with Blogspot. It is good for getting your feet wet.

The two main places to buy a website are right here on the warrior forum and at Flippa.com . My main advice when it comes to buying a website si to do your due dilegence. There are an awful lot of people selling "cookie cutter" websites. Google looks for unique, engaging content nowadays.

    Hope I helped.

I bought my first domain and hosting from Hostmonster. Yes, its more expensive than the others, but I believe you get what you pay for. I've been with HM for three years now and I've experienced 100% uptime between all 6 of my domains. Not a single bad day in those three years.

That is the kind of service I don't mind paying for, which by the way, my start up costs included the one year of hosting for $69 and got the first domain name free.

I still only pay $69 per year, although it cost $8 per domain name, but like I said, I have never once had a problem.

$10 to start. $1 for domaine name .info and $9 a month for hosting.
Don't "buy" a website, build your own.
You will find lots of information in this forum to give you a good idea of what to....... and how to......... from registering a domaine name (easy to do) and getting hosted, I belive hostgator give a months trail for $1 then different plans to choose from. I suggest you get baby croc, you can upgrade later if you need more bandwidth.
First you need to decide what platform you will use, affilliate, CPA, PPC, SEO. You will find ideas if you put your own experience to the fore and decide what you are good at. Can you draw, can you write well? do you like martial arts? Pick something that you like and build your website round your "niche" then monetize it with Adsense.
    Good luck.

You can get an own domain for $10 and $5-10/Month for hosting. Also if you choose the same company for your domain registration and for domain hosting, you might squeeze some discount as well.

The great thing about internet marketing is the start up costs. You can start your entire website up for less than $10.

When I first started out, I used namecheap for domain name and godaddy for hosting and total cost was about $16. When you are starting out, search the internet for coupons and discount codes, they will save on your initial start up fees especially when you are low on cash. As for websites to buy, you can checkout flippa. Hope this helps.

Considering the work I have put into my main sites, they would have cost me $5,000 to $10,000+ each had I outsourced the jobs. I have extremely high standards in how my sites look and function, but I'm unwilling to pay someone else to meet those standards. It's just too much money. Plus I like being in 100% control with something as important as site design.

Since you are new and probably looking to pay someone a minimal amount, you'll probably end up with a site based on WordPress and a "custom" template that is merely a slight modification of a free template. Either that or they'll buy a non-exclusive template and resell it to you at a markup. That's how low level designers work (though some of them overcharge, so don't assume you are getting what you pay for).

If you go down the road of hiring a more legit designer, expect to pay $1,500 minimum. Try to stick with designers located in North America and don't let them farm the work out to India.

I would highly recommend learning how to build your own websites by hand though. If you plan on making this a career, it's a must.

Hi mate, what are the skills in web design do you have? Joomla? Wordpress?

Do you code everything from scratch yourself or do you rely on ready made templates?

What advise do you have for people intending to freelance?

When I first started getting into the internet marketing world... I started with Free Websites...
Free Hosting and Free domains (.cc.co / .tk ...etc)
There are many free domain extensions you can get completely free and also there are hundreds of free hosting sites ...

But as I was learning more about this business..
I learned that a paid website (domain name and hosting) are very important to be successful online!

You cannot build a profitable online business with a free website..
...it will take you years ...if anything...

So the cost for my websites are - $10 bucks for hosting (hostgator) a month
And about $10 - $15 a year for my domains (each domain)
Of course the price of the domain depends - there are a lot of different prices for different domain xtensions...

I only use GoDaddy for all of my domains...

Now if you are a newbie and you want to start your own site - do it ASAP!

Cuz it will take you a long time to make that website successful...

Another thing you need to take in mind is the building process (designing the site, conversions and stuff) and many more things you need to get done if you want to make money with your site.

SEO is by far the best way for newbies to get targeted traffic - cuz is free..

    Now...

Because you are a newbie you should consider paying for an already designed website (besides your personal site - which you should build anyways for branding) that is already SE Optimized - is already popular in Google - it has a lot of backlinks to it and hundreds of pages indexed in many search engines.

Putting up content on a site like that will get you faster results and you will be able to rank up in the search engines very easy and way faster than with your own blog.

You can do what I'm saying here only if you want to make money online very fast (within 3 months or so)....you don't have to buy an already design website if you don't want to and just build your own...

..but from experience I'll tell you that it will be a pain in the butt to make that site successful from scratch and plus it will take you a long time - depending on how much work you put into it.

I'm guessing that most newbies want to make money online fast (I did!)- in 3 months or so - not in a year or two

There are many companies that offer you a very powerful already designed and optimized site for a very low price - I'm talking about below $30 bucks a month!

All you need to do is put up original content - do some SEO - promote your site and get paid selling affiliate products.

That would be the best investment a newbie can make to make money online in as little as 3 months..

Of course I highly recommend you to build you own website too - but that site will not get you the results you want fast enough so you don't quit.

I really hope this helps you!!

...got carried away -talking too much lol

P.s. this is exactly what I'm doing to make money online.... through both - my own website and an already designed website...but the website that I'm paying for every month is getting me way more results than my own site!

What kind of website you wanna build? You don't need a single penny to start a good
website, there's a free web 2.0 to start with..blogger,squidoo, etc...

but if you have some bucks to spend buy a .COM domain cost $5.99 1st yr to godaddy (with coupon)
and buy a cheap hosting you can even find $1/month hosting (you will get what you pay for)
when your site gets bigger, purchase quality hosting.

you can get an awesome and FREE Wordpress Theme related to what niche you're into,
just Search and you will find

    GoodLuck,
    Cheers!

I never spend more than $50 per site per year. That includes prorated hosting. Keep your costs low, bro. That's one key secret in this business. The other secret is to view it as BUSINESS. It's not a hobby. It's not a joke. Serious biz.

    I really love bluehost.com

I pay 5$ a month for the hosting and it included 1 free domain name. Since then, I've hosted a number of domain names on the same server.

It's a great service and provides lots of plug-ins to easily integrate wordpress and other services on your website.

I've been using it for 2 years so far, and I haven't had a single complaint.

If possible try to use a vendor that allows multiple domains to point the same same host, but with different directories. What this means if that you pay for the hosting once, but can have multiple sites on it. This way, you pay one monthly fee for the hosting, and only pay extra for domains.

Then you set up each site in a separate directory like:

      /site1
      /site2
      /site3

Then your hosting provider allows you to do something like:

      mynewsite1.com -> /site1

      mynewsite2.com -> /site2

      mynewsite3.com -> /site3

Then when people go to mynewsite3.com for example, they only see "http://www.mynewsite3.com" in the browser, but it actually is pulling the content from the /site3 directory.

Unless you are getting ridiculous amounts of traffic and consuming tons of bandwidth, you can have dozens of sites on the same hosting box (or virtual box).

Domains are so cheap. If you buy one at GoDaddy they'll start sending you coupon codes so your next domain will be even cheaper. I recently registered 10 .coms at GD that averaged 6.20/each after the ICANN fee.

Hosting is also amazingly cheap as well 3.99-10.99/month. Start small, get a beginner hosting plan. If you go with one of the major players typically it is easy to upgrade to a better account if you decide to scale up and make more websites.

WordPress is free and also pretty easy to get installed using the control panel provided by your host. You can change and modify your theme, or purchase a professional template for less than $50.

Promotion of your site is where you will either spend a good chunk of money, or put in a good deal of sweat equity.

Building a website is the easy part, getting people to visit it takes a little bit more effort.

To really answer your question exactly, you would have to also provide information about how you will be using your website - what you hope to accomplish with it?

Different hosting plans and different web site providers are more or less suited to different plans you have for your site.

    NameCheap.com = $8.95 for domain (with coupon)
Certified Hosting = $7.95 month for Wordpress Multisite hosting.

Wordpress Multisite is a MUST. You can set up UNLIMITED sites on the same server. Just connect your domain name and pop in a wordpress template. You can get up a new site in ten minutes.
