Stopping Your domain name from being stolen

I've seen a few people getting their domain names stolen without them realizing.

Moniker has this thing where you have to provide offline information before you can every do anything with your domain.

Apparently NHL and banks use them etc.

Is this completely fail safe? Or at least a lot more fail safe then places like Namecheap?

I hear a lot of people complaining about Godaddy.com because they constantly bug you to buy more. However, if you buy your domain name from them and keep the hosting there... they lock down your .htaccess file so that you wont get hacked, at least not easily.

People using Namecheap and similar places like that always need to worry about domain names getting high-jacked. They think that a simple redirect of the DNS is enough. It's not.
