Press Release does it work?

HI All,
We would like to get your advise. Does Press Release really work? and if so how long does it take until you will start to see some affect on your website?

This depends on so many factors to simply say yes or no!

    For example:

The quality of the press release
    The target market
The actual sites you submit the press release to (Free or Paid service?)
    The site its self
    The product
    The keyword targeting
    and so many more factors!

The only thing to say is that yes press releases do work if they are profesionally written submitted to the correct sites and the press release is actually targeted to a market that buys what your selling.

Done poorly with cheap sites that get minimum traffic with a bad sales page, review site or landing page, with a product that nobody wants and your going to see minimum results!

Only way to know for sure is release it and see the results!

Press releases work, but it depends if you have a newsworthy story that will generate interest.

In terms of backlinks, press releases can generate good backlinks from high authority news websites that syndicate your content. But you are unlikely to see your main site going flying up the rankings from one press release submission alone.

But by appearing in Google News you tend to get an influx of traffic just from your keywords getting picked up, but if you have a really unqiue interesting story that is tied in with current media trends then you stand a better chance of getting syndicated on major websites for traffic.

Agreed with both responses so far - also use a reputable press release agency. If you use the free stuff - it may work but only for a short period of time.

I use MacReportMedia.com (no affiliate link) They have the same syndication as PR Newswire but at 1/3 - 1/2 the cost. So instead of paying $400 - $1000 for a press release - pay less than $200 and get great syndication and links that last.

This is not for a throw-away site or promoting a WSO. This should be for branding & links to a site that you are growing for the long term.

Oh yeah - they don't limit you on the wordcount and charge you more if you go over 400 words - BooYah!

Well we used PRWEB and yes they cost a lot. we saw some new PR services also in here at WF. They give the same as PRWEB but cost so much less. Is there any difference?
    Between the companies?

Yeah it works. Especially PRWeb. Hefty price tag though for 1 press release.

But alot of the free press release sites can bring you some good traffic and publicity too.

To begin with, site owners/companies have a variety of goals when issuing press releases - from getting a dozen low value links to media reach out.

You should set your goal first. Then run several press release campaigns and evaluate results.

If you do press release distribution with SEO in mind, here are the criteria for you to measure the performance:

    1. # of exact match results for the title of your PR in google.

    2. did it get to google news for your major keyword?

    3. # of visitors brought to your site via a PR (track with unique parameters in URLs)

I posted one press release a few days ago. You can check it here...

My stats show I have received 2 visitors from the said press release. Granted that I used the free version, I guess the paid versions would give better results.

Secondly, this is just one distribution site. My thinking is that the more distribution sites one uses the better.

That said, I strongly believe press releases can greatly help any internet marketer. But the key to success is to test. Write many press releases; distribute them far and wide. Write a press release to announce the launch of a website; achievement of a milestone; new product etc. If you look hard enough, you can find something newsworthy to announce every quarter.

Just imagine the avalanche of traffic you can get if CNN picks up your press release. Don't laugh it can happen.
