  Your inability to do that, here, is effectively the price you pay for not having your own inbox full of p.m. spam all the time (which is what used to happen, I'm told, before the 50-message rule was introduced).

  If they want to be contacted, their profile will offer options like Skype and email. If it is concerning a product like a WSO, they're required to provide alternative contact. The hypothetical is moot.

I think its understandable - they want new folks to search the content on here rather than just hunt people down - probably getting a lot of complaints

Because over the years PM spam has become a problem - someone creates an account and starts PM'ing other members with unsolicited offers. While the current system isn't foolproof, it contributes to lessening the problem.

In the bigger scheme of things, it shouldn't present a major obstacle for anyone serious about becoming a member. In time you'll reach the 50 posts and have the ability to PM others for the rest of your life.

Meanwhile, grin and bear and if you feel frustrated, blame it on the spammers, who caused the problem to begin with.

So that new users can't sign up and spam forum users with PMs. Especially bots that could come here and automatically sign up and then just start sending mass PM's advertising products or services.

Also, its just 50 posts, and even then if you sign up for the War Room I do believe that rule no longer applies to you.

50 posts is too lenient. Too many members with over 100+ posts are ****ting in my inbox with spam. I propose for 100 thanks received before anyone can send a PM. This is to make sure people concentrating to give out values and to help others.

This isn't a particularly unusual thing. I know plenty of forums that have restrictions like this. Let's face it: beating a captcha is non-trivial nowadays, so the chances of forum spam increase if you relax the rules that a "human" would have to follow. I also like the point John Taylor made - 50 posts isn't a lot, and it means that you're giving to the community and not just lurking

This is a very good rule to stop the spammers. Moreover, its beneficial for you too. You can browse through various threads, read a lot and post your views on something interesting. Benefit for both the parties.
I agree, should also include 'x' number of thanks as well before someone can do a PM so as to maintain the sanity of this forum.

If it is too difficult for you to make 50 posts in the 32 months you have been here, then that's on you my friend, not the forum. That's slightly more than 1 1/2 posts per month.

The forum does not want people to come here, post 1 post, and then email others just to spam them. Plus, don't just email people to get into your opportunity. The forum moderators will find that out and will delete your account.

This forum is not for spamming. That is why a lot of people are being deleted. They just want to spam others.

A limit had to be put in place to reduce spam.

Now why is it 50 posts? ...well if it was 40 people will still ask why 40?

It's just a number. 50 is pretty fast to have bty. That's 10 posts per day for 5 days.

Given recent events, it seems it's not quite high enough.

We've had an unusual run of accounts lately for which 50 quick posts have been made, and activity then stopped. Many of these are spotted and reported, but I have no doubt others slip by without being noticed.

I could come up with any number of possible reasons for this, but they'd all be speculation at this point. The one thing I'm sure of is that it's not benign.

I would personally like to see the threshold raised to 100.

Also, a small correction: Sellers are required to have off-forum contact systems for paying customers. They are not required to provide channels for pre-sales questions. It's a good idea, but not mandatory.

50 is NOT a high number. If you're on this forum to share quality info and learn about IM then getting to 50 posts shouldn't be an issue.

And again it's put in place to prevent spam like other Warriors have stated.

50 posts is basic requirements if the user is spammer then he or she can be recognized by the quality of posts...... some spammers join forums for selling stuffs via pm without posting any content.

This. Find some good conversations that you can contribute to an 50 posts comes in no time. As I stated at the beginning though, I'm wary of any that feels the need to reach that milestone.

I've joined forums with higher requirements. The 50 post requirement is pretty lenient. Besides your question may have already been answered. Back read a thread first or read a thread with a similar topic.
