Has this ever happened to you? and how do you fix it?

I just found out google.com lists a warning besides one of my websites listed in google search engines (see below)

You +1'd this publicly. Undo
This site may harm your computer

if you click on the 'This site may harm your computer' link

you get this message:

Results labeled "This site may harm your computer"

We want you to feel safe when you search the web. We're continuously working to identify dangerous sites and increase protection for our users. The following warning message appears beneath the title of search results we've identified as sites that may install malicious software on your computer: "This site may harm your computer."

Example Web Page
This site may harm your computer
This is an example web page. You have reached this page by typing
in examplewebpage.com or examplewebpages.com ...
www.examplewebpage.com/ - Cached - Similar
If you click the title of the result, you'll be shown a page with the following warning message at the top rather than being taken immediately to the webpage in question: "Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!"
You can choose to continue to the site at your own risk by copying and pasting the web address directly in the address bar, then pressing Enter on your keyboard. However, be aware that malicious software is often installed without your knowledge or permission when you visit these sites, and can include programs that delete data on your computer, steal personal information such as passwords and credit card numbers, or alter your search results.... etc

Has this happened to you? if so how do i check if my site has been hacked or had malware inserted...

I downloaded this websites product files etc and scanned them with my microsoft antivirus software and all came up clean.

Anyway i have closed the site but don't know what to do? can anyone help please... thanks, best regards, Mason

Sounds like your website has been hacked. A lot of the hacks now will be an iframe included somewhere on the page which will load the bad content from another site, or a redirect, so that's why your files will be clean in a scan.

You should try fetching your page as a google bot and see if people are seeing something other than what you are since that can happen:

    1. On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the site you want.
    2. On the Dashboard, under Health, click Fetch as Google.
    3. In the text box, type the path to the page you want to check.
    4. In the dropdown list, select the type of fetch you want. To see what our web crawler Googlebot sees, select Web. To see what our mobile crawler Googlebot-Mobile sees, select cHTML (this is used mainly for Japanese web sites) or Mobile XHTML/WML.
    5. Click Fetch.
There are also some online virus scans where you can scan a url like
AVG Online Virus Scanner | Scan Web Pages | AVG LinkScanner Drop Zone

I'd look through your files and see if there are any added files which don't seem to belong. Then try looking through the main index and other files for an iframe or encoded code which you can't justify.
After that I believe you can tell google what happened through webmaster tools and they'll remove the warning if you'd completed the debug successfully.

    Good luck!

Just out of curiosity, ive not seen the webpage in question and you have now said its closed, but did you download a wordpress theme from somewhere for this.

Reason being, i read somewhere a few weeks back about templates that have been created with content included somewhere in the css files for linking and other malicious items appearing off page by several thousand pixels.

so whereas you and your visitors see the main 0 to 900 pixels or whatever, at -4500px there are links and other items visible and then again above, below and to the other side of the main screen view.

I think you need to get technical support from your domain servers and go on Fiverr.com to purchase for gig to get your website up again.

Try pointing your domain to some free hosting and see if the same problem happens. If still having the same problem after hosting with a different server, contact your domain registrar.

I would definitely contact your domain registrar as well (as has already been mentioned) to make sure there isn't any warnings showing on their end. Sometimes the domain can be flagged and then it becomes the trigger for a warning.

Another thought is the possibility your domain has been "hi-jacked" and has been redirected or possibly your DNS has been changed by someone hacking your account.

If you have back-up files of your website when it was new you can always go into c-panel or whatever system you use and delete all of your current site files and reload your site.

I would then contact google support and see what they tell you about removing the warning. At a minimum you can reload and then ping google. Might be a quick fix or might take a month.

    Good luck.

    - First of all, be sure that you are not getting this warning only from a single browser. Try with other browsers and be confirm about this.

-Secondly, the problem may be due to your hosting server, change it, hopefully the problem will be solved.

-Thirdly, the reason of this problem also may be due to your domain registrar.

After you get it straightened out, go to Google Webmaster tools and somewhere in there is a link to have them recheck it to get that removed.

Happened to me once and there was nothing wrong with my site. Had them recheck it and the message was still there. Had them recheck it again and they took it away.... so Google isn't always right.
