Can someone help me with finding a niche?

I'm trying to get into this IM but first I have to find a niche. Can anyone tell me how many niches there are, and how they work?

I would like to find a niche that I like instead of something I don't care for.

Maybe you can start off by listing your hobbies, what you like, what you have the most knowledge of?

I would like to find a niche that I like instead of something I don't care for. You hit the nail on the head there but make sure it is profitable at the same time.

Use the Google adwords keyword tool and see how many searches a niche your looking into is getting a month.

Obviously the more searches the better but make sure you target buying keywords so you can make money from your efforts.

P.S. make sure to have a high converting related offer front and center if your going to start a blog

Thanks you guys. Im interesting in Metaphysical/Spiritual knowledge, Health, exercise, gaming, and a few other things. Could I get a job posting and writing things for a blog or website?

Oh yeah and another thing, I thought niches were the different ways that you were able to make money in IM. I'm still looking for my path in IM so I can learn about it, then get some things done.

No no, those are methods, or strategies or avenues, etc.

A niche is a genre or category or subject such as the things you mentioned in your post. Also when choosing a niche, the more specialized, the better.

Ex: Rather than "sports" in general, say basketball, or football, or tennis.

      Good luck.

Psychics? I run the affiliate program for Psychics Live, it's a bigger market than most people think.

The health and exercise niches are profitable. If you have sufficient interest in those subjects, you can probably be successful in them. For exercise, some of the niches include weight-training, bodybuilding, weight loss, general fitness, sports performance etc.

I would say follow the money first to make sure you can pay your bills and live a little. So, your first niche is Make Money, Affiliate Marketing, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online.

After that then I would flow with whatever you like making sure you do some research to find what parts of it are popular then you will do well.

One thing to keep in mind there are a lot of folks out there that just loved to do certain things, like cooking, camping etc., but the Entrepreneur is the one who will do what pays first those are probably going to be the highest paid in the IM game.

Very true indeed. I was blown away by health and exercise, because it was so large. So, I guess with that one needs to think about sub-niches. Even if you say bodybuilding you got supplements, gyms, weight training equipment, exercises, diet etc. Health is large indeed.

Rather than start by looking for a niche, I'd suggest seeking
out general topics that you enjoy.

Take a look at your skills, knowledge and experience. What
things do you love to do? What are your passions, your interests?

What activities make you feel alive and enthusiastic?

Once you've identified the broad topic... then drill down to find a
suitable niche where there are sufficient people willing to spend
money to make it a viable business opportunity.

Once I find the topic that I'm interested in I'm not sure where I should go from there. There are so many ways to profit from things online that I don't know what path I want to go on.

My goal for these next few months is to create a source of income from the internet so I won't have to work a 9 to 5 ever again.

You have some pretty solid advice already from people like John and Terra here. What I would maybe add here is that like said above the obvious place to start would be seeing where your interests and talents may lie. However, I am not convinced that the main thing is whether you really have a passion for whatever area you go down although it can certainly help.

I think what's crucial is finding something that will likely have some real interest from potential buyer's and that answers a specific need or problem they may have. To give you an example to bring out my point here, if you are into PPC and after doing research you felt there was a real demand for people to find out how to get back their banned Adwords accounts, then you could look into tailoring a product/solution for that. It's just an example of course and I don't really know if there is a big demand for such a product, but I think this may help you understand where i'm coming from.

-Profit by providing quality content and services.
-Focus on content creation and customer aquisition.
-Forget about what YOU want to do, do what your MARKET wants you to do..

Finding a niche is generally the easy part. People over-complicate this first step. You simply follow where people are BUYING product and services. You also follow where people are advertising. Where people get stuck is in HOW to monetize that market, how to structure their website, where to get traffic, how to convert that traffic, how to track their traffic, etc......but that's a whole different thread!

John hit the nail on the head when he said to start off by thinking in general topics. Then start making a list of your own interests, hobbies, passions, what your skills are, etc.

There are thousands of niches and sub-niches and micro-niches. For example, you can take a very broad lifestyle niche such as "dating" and break it down further. It generally has anywhere from 2 to 4 1/2 million searches per month on any of the top 3 search engines.

However, "dating" is too broad and can be broken down (this market has thousands of keywords you can bid on if you're going to buy advertising). You can break it down further such as:

    * How To Get Your Ex-Girlfriend (OR Boyfriend Back)
    * How To Build Up Confidence (an ancilliary niche that goes hand-in-hand with dating).
    * Online Dating - How To Meet Women (Men) Online
    * How To Have Better Sex (another ancilliary niche)
    * How To Have Conversations With Women (breaking it down further).
    * How To Meet Women In Bars And Nightclubs (a very specific micro-niche)
    * How To Dress To Impress
    * How To Meet Your Soulmate
    * First Date Ideas
    * Christian Dating (broken down by religious belief)
    * Mature Dating (broken down by age / demographic)
    * Latino Dating (broken down by race).
    * How Kiss Like A Pro (a very micro-micro-niche!)

Look, there are people making good money selling real estate online. There are others who buy websites and WHOLE businesses and then they turn them around, build up their lists with paid advertising, and then they flip the website for way more than they paid for it.

Once you find a market or niche you are interested in, then the next thing is to do some intensive market research to find out WHO is in that market and find out what they are DOING that's working for them. Then you can even try and contact them and find out if they have an affiliate program. Some marketers have great affiliate programs and you can learn a lot from them.

the best advice you can get from IM'rs is DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT go into the IM or Make Money Online niche right away! it is the most competitive niche and you will most likely get nowhere by pursuing that, you would have much better luck by going into something like "binoculars" and selling them as an affiliate through amazon, I looked through the competition for the term "best binoculars" and I'd say that it isn't really difficult to rank in the top ten for that term and not to mention its a big bucks business!

did you mean make money keywords for SEO. or do you mean Make Money as in teaching people Internet and Affiliate Marketing? If the latter I totally disagree, but we can test it. Within the next few weeks I will be moving into the Make Money online niche and even though I have a little affiliate experience that was well over 20 years ago. So, if you want I will post right here just how everything goes. Do you want to see this?

If you join a resell rights membership site you'll see all kinds of niche products that you can promote. One good niche that you can make money in is "baby sleep tips".

But if you're looking for something that you're already passionate and knowledgable about... then see if the niche exists for it, and pursue it.

If you have a Niche that is profitable and you have a great deal of knowledge about it , I say go for it.
If there is a profitable niche that you have little interest in but know you can earn money from it, I say go for it also.

Remember, you do not necessarily have to find passion from the Niche itself to be successful and fulfilled !! Passion and fulfillment can be found in the process of participating in that Niche and making a living from it and supporting your family with it. That to me is the ultimate Passion !

There too many niches to list, but take the adice others have given here and be sure that it will be profitable for you. Whatever niche you find and whichever method you use you will need to generate traffic so it is important to have a large following. Be cautious about buying "nich discovering software" as it is just as easy to use the Google Keyword Tool for free.
