Business strategy for internet marketers

Hi all!

I am new to the Warrior Forum, although I have been lurking for a couple of months now. It has been really helpful to me, and I can't wait to be able to contribute myself!

Now, for my actual question -- I have an idea for developing a website with both free and paid content focusing on business strategy specifically for internet marketers. I have academic and professional experience in strategy, so I thought this would be an interesting and useful way to share my expertise.

It seems to me that there are very few resources devoted to internet marketers covering the basic strategic tools that many entrepreneurs use when starting, nurturing or growing a business (SWOT, Porter's Five Forces, cost-benefit analysis -- stuff like that). Am I right in assuming this? And is this something that internet marketers would be interested in?

Sounds like a great idea and would be an easy way to build a great list too.

That is a good idea. I'm familiar with most of Porter's work but that's true I find that most aren't very knowledgeable of that or cashflows, etc. Could be a very solid niche!

This is from someone who has sold a few hundred copies of a 25 page report on strategy (Google "2 word strategy".)

There is a very real need for strategic know-how. There are some amazing books written on strategy for the startup crowd. And there are hundreds of textbooks written on strategy for offline shops and service providers. But no good book on internet marketing strategy.

The problem: Strategic overhaul takes time to show returns. This makes it hard to sell strategy to a crowd where hype and get-rich-quick schemes rule. You need to find a way to keep peoples attention with your content. Because it won't bring in quick returns like buying a book on a single tactic like PPC marketing would.

    Welcome to this forum.
It's nice that, in the very beginning of your posting, you have come up with a good strategy and shared that for others opinion. Your thinking seems is in the right way and there is really scarcity of strategical support in IM. Start working. Wish you will get success within short period of times. Best of luck!

I appreciate all the feedback so far!

Ankesh -- Thanks for the advice. It is interesting to hear this from someone who has tried a similar product. I had a feeling it might be a hard sell, so I am planning to have a steady stream of fresh, informative content (that seems to be the key to everything, huh? )

RobIMJones -- I can't send private messages until I have 50 posts, can you send me one?

it is a great idea...do it. The main part on which the whole marketing is concerned is content as it is very important. Try it and update the review about it here.

    Hi StrategyWhiz,
I understand the point that you are trying to drive. But from what I have observed, most internet marketers are using proven basic marketing methods. They may find the offline corporate marketing strategy to be too complicated and difficult to understand.
However, I believe there will be a market for it if you are able to simplify the strategies into simple to understand and slap with real example of the strategy.
At the end of the day, everyone wants results regardless of which strategies they adopt.

strategy is the core off internet marketing. You really need to find the right way to approach your prospect.
So, yes this is a good Idea. But, you'll need to make very good content because active marketers already have good strategy.
example: people who have an email list and really work them out before getting them to buy stuff can be really creative when it comes to strategy.

If yourself have a good strategy for the type of business that you're choosing. You can end up with a very successful and durable business.

    good luck for the futur.
