Are these paid directories worth listing on?

I am promoting an international real estate site.

the directories i have looked into are:
Yahoo! Directory (299 dollars)
Best of the Web Directory (150 dollars)
GoGuides.Org Business Directory (70 dollars)
JoeAnt.com Directory (40 dollars)
Business.com - Find, Compare & Research B2B Vendors (300 dollars)
Directory World - SEO Friendly Web Directory (25 dollars)
Best Online Web Link And Article Directory SEO Friendly Human Edited Listings (15 dolars)

my question is, are they worthwhile? that's a lot of money just for some links.

Do publishers in your niche use content from those directories? Will the income your articles bring back make using those directories profitable? If you can answer yes to both, then go for it. Personally, EzineArticles has been more than enough for me.

Same here. Ezine, Articlebase, Article Dashboard, and Go Articles <-Those four have done wonders for me.

I'm also in real estate and the best thing you can do is promote UNIQUE content and use social bookmarking... I sent my site to multiple search directories but no luck.

I can understand paying for directory links as it's fast and easy, but it's not very effective and you will get much better results by seeking out relevant regional sites, international real estate sites, country specific sites and all kinds of other related sites if you brainstorm a bit.

I would agree to this, but when you run a marketing campaign every possible channel is important, and paid directories seem to fit well.

Either free or paid directories are a complete waste of time. When I did heavy SEO a few years back, they sorta helped, but now, I'm sure it's only a waste of time.

If you need to ask then they are probably not going to be worth it for you

There's a little confusion in this thread between url directories and article directories (perhaps originally stemming from the fact that the OP did include one entity which calls itself " ... and article directory" in a list of url directories, in his original post).

      I'm "just saying" ...

Not for me, but I'm biased: I don't like SEO traffic, don't think much of it, get floods of it without paying anyway, couldn't make much of a living from it, and don't fancy the idea of paying for rankings.

All (except the two that say they are "seo friendly") are good places to get listed. At these sites, you're paying for consideration to be listed; they are human-edited and well-maintained. That's fine by Google.

Be careful to not make this your entire SEO strategy though.
