Where to start converting

I'm helping a friend with her site to sell an information product. However, after hundreds of visitors, there have been NO SALES....

I need to do something so sales are made. But where do you start when trying to improve a website? What are the first things you change in order to improve (or in this case 'create') conversions?

Thanks!

    The headline.

It has the biggest impact, and it's as simple as changing one sentence in some cases.

The conversion process starts before they ever hit the site. How targeted are the visitors?
How are they getting there in the first place? Are they ready to buy, or shopping?

For example, if you're pulling people who are searching on "dog breeds", you're not going to sell many Golden Retriever puppies. On the other hand, if you're pulling people who searched on "where to buy Golden Retriever puppies in My City, USA", you're likely to make some money.

    Start with the qualifying process.

    Thanks for the tips.

    @the_writer: I can't send PM's since I have less than 15 posts...

@Alex Taylor: the headline is indeed the first thing that the visitor sees. I guess I have to, like Eben says, join them in the conversation that they are already having in their mind. But how do you come up with the right sentence that does the job?

@Aronya: we do try to pre-qualify the visitors, mostly through Adwords.

A general question: a minisite only has one content page (and others like disclaimer etc). Is it possible to still do effective SEO in order to get organic traffic?

We will be given you general ideas if we don't know the site. Make them a compelling offer that they cannot refuse. Capture their email and if they don't buy at first you can still market to them later.

    Ok, the address is alturl.com/wp4

I was not sure if it could be posted without me getting banned or something, lol.

    Many thanks for your suggestions!

Edit: the url can't be posted (yet) because of the 15 posts minimum... ok, ok, I'll go and make my contribution to this forum! lol
