WSO software doesn't work anymore... AND can't refund!

So I bought some software here from the WSO forum a few months ago. When I purchased it it was working VERY well. I was very content with my purchase. Then after each update the software got progressively worse. Unsure if I was the only one having this issue I did some searching to find out others were having the same problem to see that yes indeed people are having the same issue.

Basically I have the software sitting on my computer and it's not working as it initially did. It's actually so bad that I CAN'T use it anymore.

I then ask the WSO creator for a refund and he says that they only give refunds within 30 days after the purchase.

So I'm wondering if I am entitled to a refund or not? or what are your thoughts... has this happened to you?

  • Hi

I would say no, unless there is something in the ToS or guarantee that the software would work beyond the 30 day money back guarantee period.

Windows 3.1 will not run on the new computer I bought. In fact, Windows 3.1 won't run on the past few computers I got. But I'm not going to Microsoft for a refund.

I have a cool little medieval strategy game called Lords of the Realm (1994). It will not run on Windows anymore since Windows was upgraded to XP and beyond. Even in an 'emulator' mode. But I'm not going after Impressons Games for a refund.

    No software will work forever.

Also, it sounds from your post like the software still 'works' just not the same way or as well as it did for you in the past.

You even asked the WSO creator who responded so it looks like he is still responding and supporting buyers.

Does the software not run at all? Or have some of the features you used to like simply been compromised?

Sometime software functionality changes are beyond the creators control if it relies on an API or features of another system like Google or Amazon, for example.

Does that match what the sales post/information said in his WSO thread?

If it does, then clearly you're not entitled to a refund, but are fully entitled to (and should) post a calmly written, objective, factual account of what's happened in the WSO thread. You bought the WSO so you're fully entitled to "review" it and its seller in that thread. But not elsewhere in the forum.

If the refund information you're being given now conflicts with what was said in the WSO thread, then you need to bring that to the attention of the moderators, in addition, and if verified, that WSO will doubtless be closed and/or removed.

    • To be very honest, I am in content what Alexa Smith had to say.
  • Some questions for you: has the seller / creator of this software made reasonable attempts to help you find out why it's not working? There should be some reasonable support as you paid money for a functional software product and it's only been a few months.

There are plenty of consumer and lemon laws that protect people from buying a product and it doesn't deliver what was promised. Just because he or she has a 30 day refund policy does not exempt them from certain consumer protection laws and this could possibly one of those scenarios. This one is a little tricky because I don't have all the facts and I don't know what each update contained.

Can you explain a bit more what "so bad" actually means? I mean, does the software not work at all? Have you tried deleting it completely and downloading it again?

    • That's my question - is it completely inoperable, or just compromised to the point where it's not particularly useful to you? Also, did the seller give you any idea what the "updates" were for (security, changes in other sites/services, etc.).

Were the updates mandatory (you had to install them to keep it working), or is there a chance you can "downgrade" back to the earlier version?
