Why emails can't stream videos?

Ok, there is maybe a simple answer to this but I can't understand why they can upload images but can't upload videos.

Does it has some to do with the player?

Or is there a way to play a video inside an email?

Thanks

there's two ways you can have people stream videos off emails.

    1. YouTube

you can upload your video onto youtube and paste the "embed" code onto an html email.

    2. Attachment.

you can attach the video as an attachment to the email, some email clients automatically load the video and some just make it a downloadable file. not sure which client you are using, but i know for sure ms outlook allows you to load the file up as an attachment and play it without having to dl the file.

    hope this helps.

I tried #1 once and it didn't worked , must have done something wrong.

I always see that videos are only clickable image links, guess that's to benefit from the traffic to the site.

Thanks and I will try that

According to Aweber: "video technologies are generally blocked by ISPs and email clients and so your video may not be playable within an email message"

YEP, that's what I figured after trying a few times without success.

I actually got the video inside the email as an attachment, when I added the embed code as a image.

So the email had a thumbnail at the bottom and when I clicked a video player opened and started to play the vid.

But it's a bit a hassle to setup and I guess I will stick to the method all use and AWeber recommends, make a clickable image link inside the email and send them to your site where the video is embedded,

That has the benefit of getting extra traffic from your list, nothing to say against this.

I would suggest you add a image of the video as it looks like on youtube before you pressed play, into the email. When they click on it, they get redirected to youtube to watch the video. And like scottsihm said, videos are to big. But I can see the benefits of opening an email and a video or voice note starts playing. Also not everyone will like it.

Maybe it's in the near future?

I started to look into this again as I received today an email from eyejot, a video email site which has a new feature to send digital bsuiness cards to your mobile phone incl. a video.

They say that they provide an video email service but actually you get only a recording interface with hosting from where you can send a video image pic to a email of your choice after recording.

The receiver get your message, including the video image but when he clicks at it he also will be redirected to where the video is hosted, outside the email provider.

It's neat but actually does nothing different then if you record a normal video, take a pic from the start page and then put that into AWeber.

I can imagine that videos inside an email Newsletter could have a positive feedback in some cases, cause the reader will not need to leave the page and can see all right from within the Newsletter email he got.
