Authority Sites... About How Many?

hi all -

in my IM research, i am hearing pretty consistently about authority sites as the way to go vs mini sites with less content... that google doesn't like those...

so i am just wondering, if you are sticking to authority sites, how many do some folks have? i know it's different for everyone... i am interested in the different mentality/philosophy in authority sites vs the minis.. and what is working for people.

so instead of.... 20, 30, 40 mini sites........ how many authority sites?

thanks much!
nicole

I own roughly 10 but I'm only actively working on 4 or 5 at any given time.

Don't believe the hype. It's not about authority sites versus niche or even micro-niche sites. It's about traffic and conversions. Both of these models still work. Really, you only need one authority site IF you have the traffic and conversions.

One authority website can make you 8 figures if you're in the right market and have the traffic and conversions to support those figures. Don't focus on how many sites you need, focus on what market to get into and HOW you're going to monetize it. Then figure out how you're going to get your traffic and improve your conversions.

From there you can decide when and if you want to duplicate that first success and build more sites like the first one. Think of the big picture before thinking of near-meaningless details such as "how many websites", because finding the right niche, obtaining traffic, and converting that traffic is like a million times more important.

If you do it right, one is enough.

And for those who doubt this, here's a clue. Rod is low-balling you.

An authority site is very powerful and can make you lots of money. They do take a lot to run and maintain though as they usually have at least one new post a day (often more).

Mini sites are FINE....as long as the content satisfies the viewers and gets sales. Problem is that most newbies rush to mini sites not knowing what they're doing. And they make no money off of them (no surprise).

So they try another mini site thinking that one was just a failure. Well...at least that's what I did until i realized I was being dumb (after 20+ sites and only a few hundred dollars per month).

Mini sites are great if you know how to build traffic to them AND how to write effective copy, build a list, and create a strong "buying" relationship.

Having an authority site is easier because:

    1. You don't need to be as great of a copywriter
    2. You don't need to be as good at "Selling".

If you get an authority site the huge amount of traffic will get sales. The difficulty is in becoming the authority site.

To make an authority site you need:

    1. A unique "brand image" of your website - This will make you stand out from the 837493 other sites that want to be authority sites (have thousands of pages of content) but aren't.
    2. A hell of a lot of content - People see sites as the authority because of the large plethora of content they provide (videos, articles, interviews, etc) - This means LOTS OF WORK

If you are interested in making an authority site my advice to you is to start with one. If you can make one site an authority site (and I mean AUTHORITY) that gets lots of traffic and has pages and pages of valuable content....then start thinking about the second.

Trying to make two authority sites at the same time requires experience making authority sites and a very strong "know-how".

I started out with mini niche sites. In the 7-15 page area and did quite well. You can find some real gold nuggets.

Presently, I am building a large authority site in the 500+ (will increase with time) range in the stock market niche. I was a trader for 20+ years (had to retire for health reasons) so I have a firm grasp of the market.

I also so put some time in building up (and updating some of my old niche sites.

Hey, Nicole. How many sites you have (or need) in order to reach a particular income goal really depends on how profitable the niche you go into is. Technically, you can make really good money with just one site. I only have one for right now. I've had other ones in the past but wasn't really into the niche topics, so I gave them up. The one I have now is in the IM niche, but I've also worked in the dating, learn Spanish, and gardening niches.

It's not that MNS are tougher, it's that Google is tougher and people still believe they can rank by spamming the hell out of sites with shitty backlinks. I'm in the MNS business, and personally own several, as well as having built dozens for clients, and I still swear by this approach.
