Where do you buy reseller hosting?

I had a bad experience with my current host and planning to buy a reseller hosting account somewhere else.

I have a few in mind but thought of asking for suggestions here before taking the leap.

Where should I buy reseller hosting?

Should be reliable and affordable. Entry level. Not for hosting client's websites but my own websites/wp blogs.

I'm with eleven2 (type in google, can't post link yet)
    They have WHM + cPanel.
I installed WHMCS to manage the billing of my clients automatically.

They are pretty good and their price is reasonable.

Not one person here asked what your requirements are as far as the hosting itself.

    What is your budget?

How much space/bandwidth do you "actually" need?

90% of people here are going to tell you HostGator. If you're looking for bargain hosting, then go with the large, well known hosts that everyone is affiliates for. If not, look into a smaller company.

Hi I go with a german local one but had some hostgator experience, too. If you only want to use it for your own projects, you dont really need some reseller hosting, right? it should be fine having e.g. a root server or managed server where you can spread your own projects.
If you have a special link structure that connects your products I suggest using seo hosting with different IP addresses for different projects.

I'm thinking of going the reseller hosting route, primarily hostgator's aluminium plan. Would this be too much for a beginner or would you say It's a good way to start?

Since I will be using it for my own websites/projects only, is it OK if I go for a VPS?

VPS plans seem to be a lil bit costlier but mostly offer the same features as reseller... i.e. WHM + cPanel

It depends. a VPS will isolate you from other shared/reseller accounts. A VPS that's too small could be under-powered. You'll also need to choose between an unmanaged VPS & a managed VPS.

Typically a managed VPS would include a cPanel license as well as server management. Each company is different on what they consider "managed".

A self managed VPS is just the VPS itself. You will need to install cPanel, firewall, configure, secure it & maintain it.

Reseller or VPS... It depends on your budget. A managed VPS costs significantly more then unmanaged/self managed VPS too.

Well, the main reason I want to buy reseller hosting or VPS is that I need WHM and cPanels so that I can have a separate cPanel for each blog or website.

Adding domains as addon domains in a single cPanel gives rise to a lot of "growth pains" when your blog traffic increases.

With separate cPanels, it is much easier to move a single blog into a VPS/ dedicated in the future.

I guess other warriors who manage a lot of sites would agree with me.

I have 3 hosting plans with hostgator.. .two of them are shared plans and I'm hosting over 30 sites on each of them using the baby plan, never had a single problem and some of these sites get quite a lot of traffic.

You can try it out on your own though since you can get in for 1 cent for the baby plan using one of those $9,94 off coupons.

This is a major security concern. What happens when that 1 account gets compromised? They "all" get compromised as well.

Forget HostGator and most of the other advice you've gotten so far....

Trust me on this one...swing over to WiredTree.com....LINK - WiredTree - Managed Dedicated Servers | Managed VPS Hosting | Fully Managed Web Hosting

I bounced around hosting accounts for more than a DECADE, finally wound up at WiredTree and have to say I am more than satisfied.

Every single hosting company out there PROMISES the same thing...but very few deliver.

          WiredTree does more than deliver...

I have the Managed VPS option with some add-ons and it runs me about $50/month.

Some people may consider that expensive, but after screwing around with $20-25 reseller hosts for years, I can tell you that it's worth the extra cash every month to know that my sites are ALWAYS up and running.

(I can tell you from experience that one of the WORST feelings you can have is to have your hosting go down in the middle of a launch.......or have a customer email you and tell you they tried to buy something from you and couldn't because your site was down.....or to wake up in the morning and check your stats from overnight and instead of seeing the usual couple of sales....seeing ZERO because your sites were DOWN...)

They are also always making upgrades so when they do, your account gets a "bump" and the price stays the same.

Support is awesome...I've emailed them at 3 A.M. and gotten a response within minutes...

Go check them out for yourself at their website or even email them at the sales email listed on their website...they will answer any questions you have.

There are other hosts out there, but this is PROFESSIONAL hosting...and because they aren't a "big name" you still get the personal touch.

I will second WiredTree. They are an excellent VPS provider. We actually used to house quite a few servers with them, but since they didn't offer anything other than managed, we needed to move. We manage our own servers, so the management was a little overkill.

For WiredTree, check out the VPS offers section on WebHostingTalk as they frequently run specials for your first month or first 2 months of service discounts.

Oh yeah...good advice on the specials on WHT...I forgot to mention that!

I disagree with this. Websites are just files & databases and no matter where they are hosted, it's just a matter of backing up and restoring them somewhere else. Hostgator will cost you more money and provide you with an inferior reseller console IMHO, and I speak from years of being a reseller customer with them.

OK so I have host gator now. Yeah, not happy with my user experience. Planning on leaving soon. First, it is max expensive. The low end aluminum plan is $300 per year. Second, I do not like the new owner. Ask people about blue host if you do not believe me. Lastly, they are not as friendly as back when they were in Florida and a small company.

You can use a shared hosting package, not a reseller, and build a Wordpress Multisite network with domain mapping. In this way you can have all blogs into one on a single hosting. For hosting you can check this hosting top

HostGator, a good Hosting Service provider with variety of options offered by them time to time promoting affiliate/reseller system.

I am using the company from last 3.5 years & so far the service is UP. They do inform their customers in case of maintenance & other issues with their system which is very rare. I recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

Don't bother with reseller hosting, it's just shared hosting under a different name.

Spend a few more dollars and go with a VPS with WHM/Cpanel and just rock and roll. You won't regret it.

Actually, it's not. Since with a reseller account each account is able to have it's own control panel, login info, resources etc....it's not the same.

HG reseller accounts ARE just shared hosting accounts with WHCMS.

Don't believe me? Add some server side software or get any decent amount of bandwidth in traffic and see what they do to your account...

As a web host who runs many shared & reseller customer accounts, VPS's & dedicated servers I can tell you they are very different. It has nothing to do with WHMCS, which is a billing software. Can they be run on the same servers as shared hosting? Yes. There are a lot of differences between shared & reseller hosting.

This is because you're with a host that has been overloading their servers from the early 2000's. Frequently "unlimited disk space/bandwidth" hosts do this, and will continue to do this as long as people fall for the "We'll give you ridiculous amounts of space for pennies on the dollar". Host with a bargain host, and these are the problems you'll have.

My advice - find a better host who cares about the quality of their environments, not the maximum number of accounts they can fit on and barely run.

IF you want unlimited, don't bother with regular hosting if your going to do more then 10 sites, get a VPS. Vps's are cheap and ALLOW you to grow in resources MUCH Easier. Watch the "CLOUD" buzz words, that is great for scaling, but has more overhead in Reading/writing data from Hard drives from a normal VPS.

I like smaller ones that give more personal service like kickassvps.com, vivioTech and HostMediaUK, used more then those, and they are my favorites. HostmediaUK, not tons of personal service, just cheap.

Why do you want a reseller account if you're just using it for yourself? Just sign up for a regular hosting plan.

On the topic of Hostgator, I was also with them for many years and switched not long ago because I feel like their service/support has gradually been deteriorating for a while now. I'm still using a reseller account (need it for my clients) but I'm paying about 1/3 of what I use to pay with the new host. Long story short, just because Hostgator is the most popular service out there these days doesn't make them the best. Just something to think about.
