Facebook can make you money yes. I have used it with affiliate marketing as well as cpa. Facebook is not a revenue to pursue to make alot of money. You would be best to use facebook but don't just bombard on there with your offers and such or you become invaluable to your friends.

Facebook ads can be very targeted and you can make a lot of money if you approach it in the right way. Other than that, it takes a lot of work to create a fan page that makes you money. You must build a solid relationship with your fans. Personally I don't bother with this because it's waaay too time consuming, but in saying that, there are plenty of marketers making a killing on facebook. That's the way it goes, if you put the work in, you will get it out.
