Fiverr Clone - Different approach

Hi Guys and Gals,

Well i´m seeing the huge success of Fiverr since was the first one to arrive, then only gigbucks get a few coins of the market, then the remaining clones do not have great success at all. I sincerely believe that is because everybody focus on the same niche and same business model.

So i have learned a bit with that and i´m preparing a Fiverr Clone dedicated to the offline market in my country, native language, etc.

I´m thinking in something like local required services, like plummers, Cleaning ladies, painters, etc...

I was thinking in a business model as low as $5 to $500 with comissions from %20 - 5%-10%

but my main concern is more about the gig itself, because local business want to put the gig and try to send an e-mail or phone call to contact the buyer, doing that i will loose the gig price, since everything will be off the site and i will loose my comissions.

For ex. a painter puts a gigs Saying: i Paint a Room for $100 for ex. if he can contact other way instead PM since the fiverr clone will be the "middle man" will be cut off.

So my question will be how can i avoid this measures, because in my country everybody will try to do it

I was thinking to prohibit to insert numbers and or e-mail addresses but what other kind of approaches do you believe that i can use to have a good success rate.

There is any chance of using the Fiverrscript and charge a price for the GIG itself dor some specific categories? i have view the demo but did not find these kind of customization, any idea?

Thanks,
Morg

  • I think you're trying to contort the original Fiverr business model to fit your offline business. It's not a good fit. What you'd really have by the time you're done is a classifieds site.

A classified ads site either charges a fee upfront to place the ad or depends on monetizing the site with PPC.

How about Groupon? If you want to imitate an existing business model, what about the group coupon buy?

Check out Task Rabbit - it seems like what your trying to do. I imagine it's a pretty complicated system to set up.

There are a few other sites that do similiar things, research around and you'll find some better sites to take ideas/inspiration from rather than fiverr.

Working on something like that myself. Im not really worried about sellers selling off the site though. Fiverr is taking 20%, that's why they're so worried about that stuff. Be reasonable & your sellers wont care about you getting your chunk of the pie for the most part.

I think taskrabbits is close to what u looking for, fiverrscript wouldn't be the best fit and would require a lot of customization.

I think the business model of offline jobs might be a good idea. How about starting a fiverr-like side that offer jobs within a neighborhood? Neighbors can help each other offering simple tasks to perform. How about dog-walking for $5?

That's what taskrabbit does, but it seems overcomplicated for me paying online when you meet the person offline.
Plus, if you're happy with the person that walked your dog, next time you'll call him directly and not looking for someone else online, no?

I think it can work making pay a price to post the gig and let the buyer/seller dealing the payment offline.
But seller would only post if the website has a good reputation and traffic...

      Any thoughts?

And they charge ridiculous pricing considering the script is encoded and all the new addons have to be voted on and paid for lol

What are all those name above?
These are all search engine companies that started before Google.

If a site is well done it can take on and even over take Fiverr.

I would be happy with just a piece of the gig job market. Something to pay the bills and work for myself. Trying to topple fiverr with a clone script might cause some legal issues if you get too popular. Just my 2 cents.

I have also been approached by an offline client for a similar concept jobs meets employees.

But I think he is looking more at an oDesk style concept.

    Hope this helps

I like your idea and suggest you pursue it wholeheartedly!

The key to securing your customer base and vendors is to make the site focus on deals - special deals for said services. The customer will not buy direct from the vendor because the vendor will want to charge the regular price.

In cases where the customer is very happy with the vendor and wants to become a steady customer, then they can do that. Most users will keep taking advantage of the special deals on your site rather than dealing direct with a single vendor long term.

Though I agree with Fluffy in that you should look into another type of script that closely resembles the fiverr format but is more amenable to your concept. Some classified scripts do most of what fiverr does and gives your users a more gratifying experience. Fiverr scripts are a bit too menial to lend a serious offline business any sense of credibility - you need to think about that too.
