Getting Confused between Business Name & Domain Name..

hi folks,

i suppose i am in the realm of branding because i am brainstorming names... wanting to create a logical flow of sorts...

i wasn't thinking of a business name particularly but rather finding a domain name. perhaps my ebook would match the domain name.. or not. but now i am also thinking of having a business name. should this be the same as my domain name? i'm not sure if they should all be the same or rather, fit under each other.

i noticed when i was exploring creating a facebook biz page, it asks for the business name. actually wasn't sure which square to choose in creating it... "local biz or place", "company/organization/institution/" or "artist/band/public figure"? i want to be able to create a "fan page."

insights?

thanks,
nicole

    Hi,

Your domain name and business name can be the same - but this isn't required. For example, in my case my business name is my last name, which would be of no use as a domain name...
Your domain name must be easy to remember and preferably give information about what you're doing immediately at first sight. If it can be made out of a couple of good keywords that helps too (although it may not be as useful as it used to be, according to what I've read). If I were you, I would focus on this rather than on having my domain name match my business name. Unless you're running an already famous business nobody's going to relate to it anyway.
Also, what I suggest to some of my clients when I build a new website, is to have two domain names. One is for SEO, the other one is for off-line promotion (business cards and such) and that one is often matching the company's name.

Do you use Facebook ? Then you can make money just by inviting people to a Facebook group ! It's called the Instant Income System. How cool is that?

thank you... really appreciate your time.
      what you said makes sense.

do you have input on the biz facebook page?
domain name (w/o the .com) or biz name?
i noticed the category that would include coach/teacher/author may be the best match...
      that just asks for "name"
      slightly confusing

I'm not a Facebook expert, though I use Facebook -- regular accounts under my major pen names, not business pages -- to promote my books. If you have a huge audience, you can spin-off a business/fan/group page.

If you're planning to have lots of ebooks in different niches, possibly using lots of pen names, consider having one generic publishing house name, and list all your ebooks at that site. Then, when any one of them is ready for a stand-alone website, you can add that, matching the domain name to the ebook title. (Or, you can do the same thing with individual blogs at Blogger.com, one for each ebook title, for free.)

Otherwise, if you're publishing ebooks in one or related niches, all of them under one name, I'd focus on the author name. People who buy and like one book... they'll be back for more, and if they can find them all under your familiar author name, everyone's happy.
