When a Help Desk is a bad idea...

I use and promote a mid-ticket priced product as an affiliate.

Problem is when I visit the site at the moment my anti-virus software flags up a warning.

For the sales page and the affiliate login page.

So I figured I'd ping an email to the guy to let him know and it bounces back with a reply telling me it won't be read. That I should use the Help Desk....

... which flags up a warning with my anti-virus software.

While it might just be my new laptop and software, it might not be. Now I can't tell the owner that his site may have been hacked or that he may be losing customers because a script he's using is flagging up a warning his site is dangerous.

    There's a solution there. Go to a public library. Use one of those computers to notify whoever needs to be notified.

    Now, if you want to make sure that your antivirus software isn't only giving you a false-positive information, upload the URL of that site that's being flagged to www.virustotal.com. If virustotal.com shows the site as a clean site, lower the security level of your antivirus or temporarily turn it off.

    You simply go and look up the whois info on that domain and if it is available you can use an email address to notify the technical contact that a problems exists, usually even if it is a private listing there is a technical contact so you don't have to use the main domain to contact them.
