because it seems like all the popular websites end with .com. what are the advantages of having .com?

also, can you spell words with your domain name and extension to improve SEO?

is it expensive to have a, for example, .jo extension compared with .com?

also, for a niche blog, should you use your keywords in your url or go with a random brand name because it seems like the popular websites go with brand names but using your keyboards improves SEO. but the most popular search engine is called google.com not search.com, most popular internet marketing foum is called warriorfoum.com.

which should i choose for a niche blog?

  • The advantage of having a .com is because the familiarity it has with the everyday user. Looks more legit and professional i guess you could say

The advantage of having a .com domains is your website will look professional than you use .info and like Henry said, .com is familiar with everybody. I don't know if .com have impact on your SEO because I'm the expert on SEO.

From what I heard from people, it would be great to put the keyword on the domain rather than brand name if you are targeting to get high rank on SERP but if you want to brand your blog then it would be better for you to use the brand name of course. Just my 2cents.

Also earlier on .com tends to rank faster though a well optimised site with another tld will also rank well.

People tend to associate a domain name with a .com extension, as you've said, all the popular sites are ended with a .com, but a country extension like .co.uk is useful too if you want to use your domain name within your country only.

    you can use any extension,
but for commercial site .com is used.
Actually people choose .com because everyone want to press ctrl+enter after writing the site name.
This is the factor that everyone choose it.
But if your site is popular no matter .com/.net/.org.

For a brand or big authority site I'd also try to stick with .com, anything that you want to be getting direct traffic for at some point is best off as a .com, otherwise if you're relying on one time visitors primarily through search for a small niche site then .com, .net, or .org are all fine.

Every situation is a little different, but I think the above is a good general rule...

I would go with a .com at all costs. Nothing is better.

People seem to prefer .com, so go for it if you intend to flip your sites... You'll get more money that way.

But if we're talking "ranking power", .org and .net - IMHO - are as good. I've had no problems outranking .com EMD with .org & .net EMD's
