How to Block Facebook??

Hi there,

I am looking for a good method, like a piece of software, that would block Facebook and perhaps even email access during a set time each day. Like say 9-6 or whatever...something full proof AND that works on a Mac..

Thanks

Nate

    Follow these instructions:

1 Click the "Finder" icon in the dock.

2 Click the "Go" menu at the top of the screen, then click "Utilities."

    3 Double-click "Terminal."

4 Type "sudo pico /etc/hosts" without quotes, then press the "Return" key and enter the administrator password of the Mac.

5 Navigate to the end of the file with the arrow keys, then press "Return" to start a new line.

6 Type "127.0.0.1" without quotes, then press the "Tab" key. Type "facebook.com" without quotes, then press "Return."

7 Type "127.0.0.1" without quotes, then press the "Tab" key. Type "www.facebook.com" without quotes, then press "Return."

8 Press "Ctrl" and "O" simultaneously, then press "Return."

9 Press "Ctrl" and "X" simultaneously to exit the Pico editor, then restart the computer.

TheProgrammer's instructions on how to modify the host file is one way. I researched for you and I gathered that some are recommending 'Little Snitch.' I haven't used it yet but you may want to give it a try.

Here's the Mac forum I visited.

    I hope this helps.

Are you looking to improve your own productivity? Or are you wanting to track and block facebook for your employees?

I have heard that RescueTime is great for both of those and works on a Mac.

With rescuetime you can block facebook for set periods of time, 1 hour, 15 minutes, or 8 hours.

It will also track each of your employees computers mac or pc letting you know what they are up in their browsers.

I am currently researching this and am thinking of getting it for myself.

    Hope this helps

Oh and the great thing about Rescuetime is it is only $6/month paid once per year.
