Hey Guys, I am starting a new website promoting a couple of clickbank products. I am almost done with my website which would include adsense ads. I will also have several drip email campaignes set up. My question is how big of an email list is good before starting to send out emails, i.e 100, 200, 300 etc?

    One person.

The very first person who opts in needs to hear from you on the same day.

    Every
person who opts in needs to receive your first email on the same day, and the second one on the second (or third or fourth) day, and the third email on the fourth (or fifth or sixth) day - however you're spacing them out, it needs to be automated. Otherwise you end up with an "unresponsive list".

Don't imagine that the people who opt in to your list aren't also opting in to others on the same day. Your competitors are all using an automated autoresponder to initiate and maintain communications immediately, and you need to do that, too. Otherwise your subscribers won't even remember who you are.

Don't wait for the second person to opt in before starting to send the outgoing email series to the first person!

    Alexa nailed it IMHO.

Set up your drip/follow-up campaign right from the very start. Your first welcome email is arguably one of the most important you will ever send -- consider it a first date and meet the father (who owns a huge crossbow collection) all in one. OK maybe I got carried away with that analogy a bit....

Most use follow-ups to support the sales cycle, but you can definitely get original and use other methods such as tie-ins with seasonal or holiday events or reminders of such things as planting times or even when to turn the clock back.

You should set email follow ups in your autoresponder for certain period of time, say for 30 days. In this way, your list will be getting emails from you daily for 30 days. As time progress, add more follow-ups in the autoresponder. Also start to build your list consistently.

Alexa makes a very good point, you should set your autoresponder to start sending out followups instantly, meaning your subs will get a welcoming email the moment they subscribe.

You can use this opportunity to present them with a free gift, an upsell, a link to another affiliate offer etc.

On the other hand you have to keep in mind that metrics play an important role when dealing with lists. Two of the most important ones are: the number of subs who will click through and access your message from their inbox and the number of subs who will eventually end up clicking on the links inside your email.

    Mike.
