Spend Too Much Time On The Internet?

There is a thread over at the Adsense/SEO Forum called How Many Hours Do You Spend Every Day To Make Money? and it reminded me of all the months I spent online 10-14 hours per day and didn't make a single penny!

My wife about killed me too! This internet thing isn't going to work! She would say. After about 8 months, I started to bring in enough money to pay our bills. After about a year, the income was comfortable.

Now she says, I sure am glad you did that! When she holds her hand out for money to go shopping with!

Did any of you go through this with a significant other? How much pressure was you under to make money?

I got hurt and lost my job so I didn't really have any other source of income and it was hard! Now, 2 years later, I make over $5,000 per month...still not that much to some of you pro's, but it takes care of us!

What's your story?
#internet #spend #time

I think with anything in life that we really want bad enough, if you stick through the bumps and rough patches (which are inevitable) you will eventually see that light at the end of the tunnel. The hard part and where most people fail is in having the patience and will to stick with it.

First congrats on your income level!

Second, my wife hates it still even though I am on about 4 hours a day give or take. I spend most of it with her and she still hates the online thing. I have been bringing in about 5k to 10 per month sometimes half of it in a day.

She wants me to get a job just in case it stops working out on the Internet...haha...NO THANKS!

Anyway, it really does take time but it doesn't have to. There is so much information online and you can be sitting pretty right in a week if you really done things right. I did a trial on this. I gave myself $50 to use and started a new list. I bought another Aweber account and created a small product that I gave away free. I did not promote that product. Just let it sit on the WSO section of WF and a few other forums.

After I did that, I had a nice list size of about 300 which I promoted some affiliate offers. I rinsed and repeated and by the end of the week I had 2000 give or take on my new list and I was making an additional 500 per week plus minus. It was easy because I knew what to do.

I am now creating a product on this system so people will know what to do. I make good money and I proved to myself that I can make it happen.

If you want it bad enough you can earn it.

I help people now to earn a living online and it makes me feel good.

I spend way too much time on the Internet and most of the time I don't even get paid to do it! It's funny how quickly time passes when you're just surfing the net.

It's interesting that so many of the online opportunities that we have now didn't even exist a decade ago. At first, I was a bit of a sceptic and thought the Internet was just full of get-rich-quick schemes. Now I think it's a great source of income as long as you put the right amount of time & effort into your online work, even if this field is still a bit unreliable at times...

Yeah, I can relate more than I'd like

It takes some vision and courage to work when others can't see the immediate results.

Anything worth doing takes time and focus. I spent a lot of time pursuing various biz models. Most have produced little. But some have paid out amazing profits. Even more than I expected.

So sometimes, you just have to try stuff, and stick with it long enough to see what kind of results are realistic.

This is for the people going overboard on the internet. If you're neglecting social interaction and losing sleep, yes of course it can affect you.

But if you are balancing your internet habits with your doses of other things, it can be perfectly fine.

Being stubborn is probably the best quality an Internet marketer can have.

If you are out there and still haven't made any money with your site then you need to build your list. Pay someone to put a free ebook on their list to help you build yours, but build a list. This was one of the last things I learned monetarily about making money.

Set a schedule and focus on your sites backlinks too...& never give up! If this ex coal miner can make a good living online then you can too!

John Chow told me one time that it took him 8 months to make any money online! Stay with it.

I think it is fine we spend a lot of hours to build our Internet business initially (maybe money too), but as time progress, we would like to cut down on our Internet hours, and at the same time revenue should go up.

I don't have a other, but my friend did and he was up to about 200 bucks a month in fees and so forth. She shut her mouth about two years later when he started pulling in 4 grand a month, plus he had his regular 50,000 a year job. Then he dumped her, man those were the days.

From 2003 to 2005, I spent around 16 hours a day in front of PC doing promotion and everything.
Sionce last year until now, I still spend the same amount of time, only that almost 10 hours in watching Korean dramas... and it's addictive and killing my productivity...

Yeah Korean dramas are really addictive for me too. When I get bored to work, I will spend around 4 hours to watch them. But now, I'm not watching them anymore because I know that's just waste my time and decrease my productivity.

Anyway, I spend around 3 hours to googling new information about internet marketing and 5 hours to work the graphic design orders and 2 hours to talk to my partner about our business future. So, I spend 5 hours to get money and another 5 hours to leverage my business.

It's strange, but if you look at the original post, and then look straight at the post right before mine, you keep wondering how did Korean dramas came in the discussion about making money online LOL.

But yes, been there done that. I've had to spend a a lot of my time explaining what I do and that it will work.

Now that it IS working though, I haven't had to worry about doing that any more.

I looked at this like any other business when I first started. I knew I was not going to make a lot of money super fast. My wife, didn't quite understand it though. The fact that I was retired made it even worse. She kept telling me I was wasting my time, that I didn't need to work, etc. Well, when I started making enough money to pay all of our bills, have lots left over, and we don't even have to bother our retirement money she is happy that I spent that time in my office in front of my computer.

This is my story too...without the retirement. I got pushed into early retirement with an injury, and didn't have that much in 401K.

Right now, I am actually having trouble getting past the $5,000 per month mark. I am now just focusing on promoting my list and getting it bigger.

I enjoy being online. But not beyond certain hours.Whenever I need to spend longer hours I take breaks - have a glass of water, go get some fresh air in the balcony or have a nice little chat and get back. The most torrid time was getting the first customer.Once that milestone was reached, it has been a relatively smooth going.Im not into blogging, so not much I can say, but I read from people like Wade that it does take time to build up the reputation of the blog for it to yield returns. So the moral of the story - if you want to be making a living online, plan long term and network. Its important.
