This "Trick" Will Boost Your Product Sales (you are entering a 'No Hype' zone)

My main focus is Forex (and, if I'm totally honest, only really use WF to look for JV/Adswap opportunities and learn a little about copywriting).

However, my low post-count is becoming a pain as I can't PM.

So I thought I'd try and provide some value to others for a change .

I create my own products and offer them to my own list - but have not gone in for big launches or such yet - I keep myself to myself generally.

But here's something that I use every time when I release a product... actually, it's probably nothing new to everyone, but it was a revelation to me...

Once my product is ready to roll I email my list... telling them about my recently released product and giving them the link - just standard stuff really. I make sales.

However, the next day (or day after), I will send out a PDF report to the list.

The PDF is usually very short (3-5 pages) and provides some value... but it must relate to my latest product. The end of the PDF is a lead-in to the product that I'm offering and I have a clickable link in the PDF.

Now, there are a few things going on here...

1) I get credibility from giving away value (which allows the sales-page to do less of the 'heavy lifting').
2) I give them a direct-link to the PDF so they don't sign-up or have to jump through any hoops to download it (which means the click-rate in the email is almost the same as the open-rate!!)
3) The email for this free report will usually be opened by 2 and sometimes 3 times as many people as the first email (depending on how poor my first email subject was ...ha-haa).

I can say, quantitatively, that I get at least 30% more sales on a new product this way (usually 50% ...and every so often 100% or more!).

Do what you will with this info...

James

A couple more things to help in your emails...

    I have found:

Using square brackets [like this] as part of a subject line is not as effective as using curly brackets (like this).

Adding symbols like '+' (i.e. "free tricks + tactics") get's higher opens. Same with elipses '...'.

Using links in emails with Click Here is not as effective as just showing them the actual address (http : // www ...)

Good stuff I always love it when someone comes along with good solid data backed up by testing.

Thanks 60 North. You're getting closer to being able to PM and giving value in the process - doesn't it feel good

Cheers intergen - yes, it does feel good - there is loads of stuff that I can say like "this works better" or "that works better" - but it can be a little bit undefinable ...but like you say, it's good when there are numbers - because you can't argue with them ...particularly if they're preceded by a '$' ...

    its good james

i can def see why it would be effective as it presells a lot of your list and does the heavy lifting as you say

do you create pre launch lists as well?

i have found by emailing my entire list and get anyone that are interested in my next product to go into a pre launch list, i often get conversions around 20% - 50% doing this

using your method combined with a pre launch list im sure would do very well :-)

I'm actually just starting to work my first pre-launch to my list - uncanny timing!

I'm shocked (in a good way) at hearing that conversions can be as high as 20% and 50% ...but I'm well aware that it's dependant on factors such as relationship with list, product quality, sales-copy, price (to name a few).

Yes, I think you're right, adding the PDF thing to a pre-launch could be very interesting indeed.

Out of interest... I'm using 'Alway Be Launching' as my rough guide to doing this up-coming pre-launch thing (obviously including testing, testing and testing some more!)... but if you have any other recommendations as to a launch format I'd most appreciate them. Cheers Paul.

Another reason that the PDF adds so much more profit is because I usually split-test one or two things on the first mailing.

I may think I have an "awesome" new headline for the sales-page ...but when I split-test it with one that I know works well (but has been slightly modified for this particular product) ...I'll find that conversions are half of what they are when using the tried-and-tested headline.

So, when I email out the PDF the next day, I know that I can expect conversions to be twice what they could have been if I didn't test with the initial mailing.
