Email marketing. Over 30 000 users. What to do with this list?

Hello,

Need an advice. Now we have over 30 000 users registered on a movie site. What kind of offers can we promote for these people?

The offer depends a lot on knowing your subsciber demographic a lot more. Your question is pretty vague since we don't know if your list is local or international just for starters.

Perhaps the best way to get the answer to this question is ask yourself what offer you would find valuable. We can toss all sorts of ideas around, but ask yourself what offers (which are possible for you) would add value to your subscribers day. You might also ask your subscribers.

Gosh, there's so much you could do with your list if it was built from your own site.

You could offer a freebie (tickets to a new movie or a DVD of a latest release - maybe even spend a little money by purchasing a number of different movies to make sure you appeal to a good number of people).

You could ask them, in return, to fill in a form which could help you break down your list - their location, their movie preferences, etc. That would give you a few more niche lists. And you could then create more regular offers to each list.

    Hope i've helped a little.

Yes this is my website. Site is operating since 2009. They are interested in watching movies. Mostly men, 15-30yo. I think many of them are not 100% loyal to my site now, I have never send them any news.. So maybe I should start with something really soft. Like newsletter.

Did they opt in for a newsletter? Be very careful there. Just suddenly sending out a newsletter to people who may have signed up for your site years ago or for that matter, sending a newsletter out when you haven't got people to actually opt in to get one, will cause you some real grief.

Your newsltter is not your offer. Your newsletter is the container for your offers - whatever those offers may be, from information to products or services.

If the site has been around since 2009, then it's a good bet you have people on there who don't remember even signing up let alone subscribing for a newsletter. Now, I don't know all the details here, but I would suggest you launch a campaign on the site to get people to sign up to your newsletter with some good incentives/offers. Certainly among those incentives should be the great content your newsletter will deliver.

      Regards,
      jim

You can try to monetize it with email/zip submit (CPA) offers.

What a wonderful problem to have. haha

I would send them information about new movies that are being added or that are about to come out, then after you've fostered a good relationship send them some to your Netflix and Amazon Prime affiliate link and mix in some CPA that would appeal to this audience.

It's easy to find info and trailers of movies that are coming out, and if it's a movie you've added to your site -even better.

I also have interests data on users profiles. By the way I have already sent a test mail from mailchimp. Sent to 1000 users. After that I got mailchip warning that I have high bounce. How to check emails? I think mailchimp will not like the idea to send a newsletter to a whole list.

That stinks. It must be an old list or not a double opt in. Mail Chimp is gonna get a bit upset I can already tell you, but just talk to them. Download/export your list, you can set up a mail script on your server to cull it. 30000 is past the "free" aspect of Mail Chimp.

Cull your list asap and start taking care of it.

So many of those emails will be dead it won't be funny. You might not be aware of this but lots of phony accounts are used to sign up on forums.

You have to do something to clean up that list before attempting to import it into MailChimp or anywhere else.

I really dont know how to clean it. That is the problem. Maybe just send mails from my own server slowly and collect logs? After that to opt in valid emails?

It all depends on your budget. I would use PHPList and SendGrid. Then I'd import them all, then remove the bounces.

      Remember to be Can-Spam compliant.

      1) No misleading title.
      2) Tell them they're getting the email because they signed up on your website
      3) List your physical address and company name.
      4) Give them a way to unsubscribe and honor unsubscribes for 30 days.

Send them a general informational email with something fun. After a few days, process bounces in PHPList. After that you'll have a relatively clean list.

My guess is you'll probably have around 12,000 clean email addresses but a relatively non-responsive list. It might be worth under $100 to at least try it though, because you do know what they're interested in.

In mail chimp, it will auto delete emails that have 2 hard bounces (I think you can set it to delete on the 1st hard bounce). You could just sign up and use the paid version until you've culled your list? else wise, you can install a script on your server like php mail or PoMoo, etc. Nearly all mailing systems have a way to take care of bounces.

Send them a movie trailer of the month..If they signed up via username/password, send them a link to a survey indicating their favorite genre, then the next month you will have even more targeted traffic.

    1) you can survey them to find out about their demographics and interests.
Offer something free for completing the survey

After the survey you will have a better Idea of their interests.

Lets say it is dating and eating pizza then...

    2) You can peel them off into sub lists for specific niches. I.E. you send an email and say..I am giving away this free ebook on dating tips..click here to get it. This will be a opt in page . They enter email now they are on your dating list.. YOu then send that list dating offers.

You send another email about free pizza recipes, that also goes to opt in page. Now you have a opt in list with people who like eating pizza..you send that list.....pizza's
