What are the ways to incentivize users?

Good day, I'm launching a social network and need to build a good user base. I'm planning to do most marketing through the app that will invite friends that already use the app by sending invitations to Facebook friends of a user who's already on my social network. I'd also like to incentivize users to spread the word. What are the way you would use to incentivize the users?

    Hey,

If I was to receive incentive for joining your social network I'd like top quality content / media of some sort that I could not get any where else. Exclusive and super helpful or entertaining.

    All the best,
    Ryan

This is going to depend on what sort of app/social network you are making. Most games offer in game advantages for inviting friends. A good incentive is one that drives the users back to your product.

I appreciate it, can you bring some specific examples?

So a quick example is a facebook game that offers in-game currency to refer their friends.

This is a double whammy - it encourages the user to do what you want and it brings them right back to the game to spend the reward. Genius.

Solve a problem facing the niche that you are building your social network for. If you can figure that one out you're well on the way to making them take action and follow you.

Good luck with your new venture.

I'm all about giveaways. Even small stuff seems to drum up serious sign ups these days. So this is definitely something for you to think about. Giveaway something that fits in inline with your brand, and watch those sign ups increase.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

BP, what giveaways from your experience increase sign ups? Guys, just to give you idea what it's all about, the social network will be similar to Badoo

Since you're dealing with people here, it's human nature to want to share something cool with your friends, so obviously you have to make your user base to want to spread the word.

A reward of some kind is probably the best solution, at least in the beginning (after a while everything will go viral if the "reasons" are there).

Example of rewards you could use:

    - games with different levels: when users first sign up they have access to the first level only; as they start referring friends they can get access to the next levels where they'll benefit from having multiple choices etc;

    - some sort of app that will calculate the chances of meeting a certain type of person by answering 20 questions let's say; when they first sign up they can only see the first 5 questions, as they refer others they can start seeing the rest of the questions, thus being able to finish their test.

    Hope this helps.
