Managing a list of old and new subscribers

Hi,

This is my first post. I've been searching the forum for answers to my question, but I can't seem to find it so I'm asking here. I'm really not sure if this is kind of a stupid question, as I'm totally new to this, but please bear with me

Ok, so when you're building a list of e-mail adresses, and use an autoresponder, let's say aweber - how do you funnel new subscribers into the routine you are using with your seasoned ones?

Let's say you send new subscribers e-mails on day 1, 3, 6 and 10 before you want to start the regular routine of once every 5-6 days. I can't seem to wrap my head around this process, won't the new subscribers be receiving both "introductory" and "regular" e-mails all over the place?

As I'm sure you understand, I haven't actually started gathering a list (as my site is not up yet) or registered with an autoresponder. I'd like to understand a little more about the process and plan ahead before I get my feet wet.

- Goodison

I don't have a list yet but it is also something I would like to know how to do as I am building one as we speak.

    Hey goodison,
I'm not 100% clear on what you're asking, but I'll take a crack at it. Let me know if I misunderstood.

You mentioned new subscriber emails - I'm going to call these autoresponder emails. You also mentioned regular routine emails - I'm going to call these broadcast emails. Those are the names you'll see inside your autoresponder account.

So there's a couple ways to approach this:

    1. Use send options. Don't send your broadcast emails to your new subscribers. There's a filter inside your autoresponder account. Each autoresponder company is different, but most have an option where you can send a broadcast email only to the people who've been on your list for 10 says or more.

Do that, and your new subscribers will just get your autoresponder emails until day 10. After day 10, they'll start getting your broadcasts too.

    2. Don't have any autoresponder messages. I've seen some smart marketers do this. You sign up to their list and you get 1 automatic email that thanks you for joining. After that it's 100% broadcasts. No autoresponder emails. This way is super simple and you don't have to worry about confusion or overlap.

    Hope I answered your question

Hi Danny, and thank you for your reply.

You seem to have gotten the gist of what I was asking. This clears things up quite a bit. The second approach seems to be a pretty simple setup.

What I'm planning on doing is creating a simple wordpress blog in the dating/self-help niche (haven't decided entirely on how "sharp" to profile it yet) and update this at least 5-6 times a week. I will create a 5-6 page free PDF and offer this to readers in exchange for their e-mail via a plug-in on the sidebar.

In other words: nothing new and revolutionary here

However, I have a genuine interest in the topic and feel confident that I'll be able to provide my subscribers with valuable content.

But at some point, if (I mean 'when') things work out, I'd like to monetize the list. So let's say I promote a clickbank product as an affiliate. What, then, about those signing up a week or a month later? I'm sure there are possibilities of segregating between these groups of subscribers by only sending to those that didn't receive the original broadcast, but it still seems to me to end in chaos..

So i guess what I'm asking is if there are any particular solutions or strategies dealing with this?

Your email follow up sequence should controll that, let's say you have 5 follow up emails setup in your autoresponder to go out on days 1,3,5,7 and 10, then any subscriber added to the list with the follow up sequence would have to go through the sequence you specify.

The only time subscribers would receive "extra" messages is when you send a broadcast message, a message that is not part of your follow up sequence.
