Fellow warriors... exposing spam and expressing my opinion... what's so wrong about that?

ok so like many other countless WSO's out there, I subscbired to an ebook thinking it would be good value but it was not.
So, I unsubscribed and posted one little comment saying "lame"

and the producer of the ebook starts complaining and writes to me

" do not take offence to an unsub but I would have rather you just unsubscribed and not complained. Makes my service provider not like me and makes me look bad in my videos when I make them using my Aweber account as examples."

Well IF YOUR EBOOK is not good then Why shouldn't I tell it like it is?
And of course it was "free" so i wouldn't normally say anything but why use a bad product just to collect people's email addresses.

I am so inspired by junk products like this to create a REAL product because you guys deserve so much better.

That ebook owner sounds like an opera singer...

    <ahem> "ME-ME-ME-ME"

Of course, he doesn't want a complaint, especially when it sounds like he has no interest in the feedback. You weren't happy with his product, and he wasted a chance to find out why. Instead, he chastised you for making him look bad.

If he didn't deserve it, shame on you.

If he did, then boo-freakin'-hoo on how he looks in his videos...

I see so many 'free' ebooks just to get an email address, do they really think the subscribers are going to actually buy something from them? If the ebook is not giving the inside track on anything useful and serves no purpose than to get email addresses, you are quite right to be annoyed. Tell it like it is.

Perhaps if your complaint had been a little more considerate there would have been no problem?

"Lame" is hardly going to be useful feedback -it just makes you look bad and doesn't give him/her anything to change.

      Agreed.

Though if I'm the product creator in this same situation, I would try to follow-up personally with the person and see exactly what they didn't like. Then use that to make my stuff better.

"Lame" may have been uncalled for, but the product creator should realize that there's a reason the OP said it.

true but i was busy doing other things and i did not want to waste my time my point but looking through his ebook that was the BEST word to describe it in my opinion... why was it lame? before i even got a chance to open it, there were offers left and right.. like HELLO i just gave you my email address... atleast give me some value before you start promoting your stuff.

This is not the first time I have come across a junk ebook. But you know what... this is a great opportunity for me to create a REAL ebook and actually help others

So you didn't actually look through the entire ebook?

        LOL

Anyway, I think it's cool that the book's "lameness" has motivated you to make something better. That's a good attitude to have, and it can be applied to just about anything, good or bad.

While perfection is a myth, striving for it can be profitable.

I'm not saying you weren't right to share your thoughts - just that you should take a little more accountability for them and at least if you're going to tell someone their product sucks - let them know why.

BTW - there are plenty of 'Real' ebooks around from people who are sharing very successful strategies.

I also think it is okay to have a negative opinion. However the person that gave you the book deserves a little more information than lame...

You mentioned you were turned off right away with all the offers...that is a great point and it is constructive criticism that the writer could benefit from...

I think you hit him with a hammer when a soft slap would have been more appropriate.

Yeah, I know how you feel.

People of all skill and experience levels are pushing products these days because they've been "taught" by others that it's easy money.

But I personally like to believe that they (like the person you downloaded from) are sincerely trying to help others and do the "right" thing. They just don't realize that the information they are giving is crap due to their inexperience.

Again, what I like to believe.

    Thanks,
    Chris

As Andy said, "lame" isn't really feedback. What was lame? Why did you think it was lame?

There is nothing wrong with sharing how you feel about the product, free or not. Perhaps the person offering the product will go back and make it better. But HOW? They have nothing to go on.

One other thing, sharing an email address to get something IS a form of payment.

You have every right to complain, but grabbing a single word from the dictionary isn't really a complaint.

    All the best,
    Michael

You have already went and gave up your email address, why not read the book, most marketers have a copyright & web address at the end of every chapter and every one has a different perception on how to promote in their books.

Frankly. If all you're going to give is one word feedback you shouldn't bother. Personally, I love constructive criticism on my products. It's the only way I can make them better.

By posting just one word you would have me convinced that you didn't bother to go through the material.

You did absolutely nothing wrong. You expressed your honest feedback and the seller wasn't happy about it. That's his problem, not Your's

As a Vendor I would like a bit more constructive feedback.

Saying "lame" with nothing else does not guide the vendor in providing a better product.

More than likely it is like giving away a car to a stranger and he gives you the middle finger.

Most Vendors I know try to provide a quality product. It shows effort and few would like their name dragged in the mud.

What were your intentions of saying, "Lame?"

The only reasons I can think of are related to just because you're in a bad mood and you feel like bringing the product creator down.

I hope that's not the case.

But that's all I can think of why you would just spit out the word, "Lame."

You certainly won't make many friends that way.

But I wish you the best of luck with your business anyway.

I think a major part of this is bing missed. The list owner very likely thinks the comment counts as the kind of complaint that counts toward getting his list shut down. As in, a spam complaint.

He's wrong, but I can see why he'd be annoyed if he was under that impression.

Giving negative feedback in a WSO thread is your right, and I guess there is no rule that says you have to expand on your opinion beyond a single word.

However, giving a one word 'lame' response says nothing about the book concerned, but it speaks volumes about you, which can also be summed up in one word...

        lazy.

anyways I understand where most of you guys are coming from... but I still stand by my original comment and maybe if I were to review it again, I'd expand upon it a little more but I am more than happy to take heat as long as it helps ensure that in the future better WSOs are created.

Reminds me of when i used to sell one of my most successful products on ebay, and the guy wanted a refund because it was "standard knowledge". Over 500+, 100% feedback from this book, and this clown leaves a negative feedback because it's "standard knowledge". My thought is that if it was standard knowledge, why are you buying more products on the subject anyway instead of implementing what you're learning?

Saying "lame" might not have been the best move. and yes it doesn't really offer much, but if the creator of the product wants a successful business, then instead of getting all pissy, they should of asked more questions like,

What about this product did you not like?
What were you hoping to learn that you felt you didn't learn?
    How can I improve this?
How can I make your experience with me and my company better?

If a product owner responded to me in this way, he would have won a customer for life.

The creator of the product needs to learn some customer service skills!
