Domain names; Salesy or unusual?

Hi there,

Just joined up with my new "fun" name, and wondering what people think about Domain names; Salesy or unusual?

I am beginning to like the fun idea because it puts the potential customer in a better frame of mind to a). purchase and b). enjoy the product. Sounds like a win-win. And I'm enjoying working with it more as a bonus!

Vote in the Poll above.

For instance:

MakeMoney.com

YellowGiraffeFun.com

Such as I have used for my new domain. Mine is for a free report, so I decided to go for the .org

I'm not going to put it in the post here as I don't want to get blasted but it's in my signature. I've usually gone for the former boring type this is my first fun one.

Any thoughts?

In response to the other posters edit: This isn't spam I created this thread to ask about my new choice as suggested by the product originator. It's not something I've taken seriously before. I'm obviously a newbie. I did obviously create the user id to promote the business, That's not considered bad form I hope! (but note I do not have multiple IDs). Thanks

I think it's fine, but I don't like branding a .org because when people think of your name they're going to type in .com and not find you :/

Edit: I have a feeling this thread has an ulterior motive. What a shame.

Welcome to the forum. I thiink a standard keyword focused domain name will serve you better. It's not the domain name that makes the site successful... it's the successful website that makes the domain name popular.

    Welcome to the forum!!

I used to only register longtail keyword domain type of names, but now my latest domain name choices are "short and brandable" .com's

5 characters and under preferred, under 10 max

I do think a "fun" name that fits that criteria is better then a boring salesy type of domain name

    why?

well, lets look at some you may recognize that fit in with my latest way of choosing a domain name ...

    google.com
    yahoo.com
    tumblr.com
    flickr.com
    fiverr.com

just to name a few ... seem to be better to have it fun and easy to remember if you ask me

        I like fun names.

I don't think I would use a branded name depending on what it was.

There is still evidence that Google gives preference to keyword domains. You will still have to build links, but any advantage is worth it IMO

I voted with it doesn't matter. It comes down to your traffic skills and conversion skills. The website could be called sleasysalesman.com but if the website owner has mastered those two skills he can make millions. Remember rich jerk?

It just occurred to me that I also have Mango-Monkey.com,
I'm doing a split test between the .org and the .com. and see which if any gets more clicks.

    Will advise

I think your subject should be consistent with your sales message.
