The best ways to get traffic these days ?

Hi all,
I think that we all noticed that the IM has changed especially after the penguin update, so I was wondering what are good ways to get targeted traffic, I know there are a ton of them , but what I do mean is what is working best these days, SEO, social media, PPC.....?

I'll consider almost anything but SEO methods.

But overall, for me, no other method I've ever tried has ever compared with the floods of highly targeted traffic that can be produced by article syndication.

Pre/post Panda/Penguin, Google traffic is only ever Google traffic anyway: it's always been the kind of traffic that opts in least and buys least, in all 8 of my niches. Besides which, it's the most precarious traffic-source you can find: a business that depends on Google for its primary traffic can only ever be one algorithm-change away from a potential accident.

Do you recommend me any related posts to read about article syndication because I don't know what it is, sorry if it's a newbie question :p

So true, good thing that google is starting to lose their market share.

Traffic means people coming to your site in droves. But people come to the internet mainly to get information. So build all your traffic driving stragies around providing the type of information people are searching for most in your niche.

I personally recommend forum marketing and article marketing.

Depends what you're goal is. I'd say SEO is the best if you do it correctly. It's free and somewhat predictable.

It is very risky to rely on Google for traffic, we need to Google proof our business and get traffic from other sources. The best way to do this in my opinion is to do guest posting on other related blogs. You will get links, more traffic and better rankings.Using the traffic of already successful sites is no bad idea.

You just contradicted what you previously said. First you said that relying on Google for traffic is bad and too risky, then in the same sentence you say to Guest Blog because it will get you links and better rankings.

You could start a blog. Create some youtube videos. Find a forum in your niche and participate. And still do seo and article marketing. If you want to do social media, fine... just dont expect a ba-gillion dollars to be made from it next week.

Telling friends/family members about it is probably the easiest way to build traffic. Then there's always blogs/websites, forums, youtube, yahoo answers, classifieds, etc.

You need to focus on your top 3 key words and then just build all of your content around those 3 words. Google awards you for legitimately trying to educate your audience on something specific. When you write content that specifically addresses the questions your audience has when they go to search you will find that within 3 months your traffic will begin to spike.

I have realized after doing this for several years that if you spend an hour a day writing content that relates to your site and posting on your site and on other 3rd party legit sites you will dominate your competition within 1 year. You have to be consistent though.

My Construction loan sites and other mortgage sites are among some of the highest ranked sites in the world...and all because I consistently spend an hour a day....

Yes, the above said activities will help a lot in getting real traffic for any niche website...

These activities do involve a way to keep traffic flowing towards one's website & its done for long term purposes. No one actually do article marketing for a month but for years as it doesnt gets OLD anyway !!!

You mention several. I'm willing to bet that you already know the answers we are going to give.

There is not 'best'. There's only what works for you.

Easiest traffic to get is paid traffic. But if you're asking about free traffic, there are only so many types, and there are no new secrets in that area...

If I were forced to say best, I would say paid.

  • The question is really dependent on the niche you're trying to dominate. You really have to be at where your audience or target market is at.
In my case, a lot of my target audience is on Social Media but I do get some search engine love once in a while.

I've built a sizable syndication network just on social media (e.g Facebook groups) in which I launch a blog post and then others syndicate it and vice versa. Mass traffic to your post and all for free. From my experience as well, this seem to have indirectly helped SEO as well.

I'm also getting some traffic off Youtube as well. Needless to say, I'm a diversified traffic kinda guy. I don't wanna put all my eggs in one basket - I tend to drop it a lot these days.

I agree with Michaelangelo, it really depends on the audience you are wooing. For some niches social media works and for others it's like trying to find a drop of water in a desert.

Look around at your competitors and see where they are targeting. Then do some research on your own and see if what your competitors are doing lines up with what you found. If it does, bingo, you know where to fish.

Go to Alexa.com and go through each category. Each one of the top sites there is only there because they get a tonne of traffic. Rather than always depend on people to tell u where to go, look at the trends. Then visit the sites and see where you can write content. ... Job done, great thing too is Is Alexa has categorized everything, I think of it as "categorized audiences" ... And here's the link Alexa - Top Sites by Category: Top

IM hasn't changed because of some animals update.

and every traffic source still works.

you can use blog commenting, yahoo answers, solo ads, banner exchanges, banner advertising, ad space, adswaps, run your own affiliate program, build a list and own the traffic you generate.

anything but buying "targeted traffic" online...these are bots and you will be dissapointed on sight.

One of your first plans of action should be to build a Powerful e-mail list. In case you’re not sure on how to do this, here’s a Free E-book explaining the step-by-step process so you can Build a Powerful E-Mail List.

Use Google Adwords, pay per click ad system is the fastest way to improve traffic. It works and that is the benefit, the downfall is it costs money and can get expensive.

Other steps to take that would cost money is to do 2 or 3 guest posts per week. This is a wonderful way to get consistent visitors to your site as well as improve your search engine rankings. Find some high traffic sites and see if you can advertise there.

The good news for affiliates is there are other methods to bring traffic in but it will take determination, smarts and a lot of hard work. So if you’re up to the task here we go.
    • Write at least 7 comments every day on different high ranking blogs (210 monthly).
    • Give 4 forum posts on 4 different forums every day (16 forum post daily, 480 monthly).
    • Create one video every three days and upload it to YouTube and one other video site (10 monthly).
    • Write one article every day consistently (30 monthly). After these articles get indexed on your site submit them to article directories such as EzineArticles.com.
    • Post to Social Media Websites. Google will look more favorable upon your site if you have a social media following.
True internet marketers stick to these fundamentals. There is no push button method or easy way to make money quickly. It all comes down to making money the old fashioned way…you have to Earn It!

Google updates it’s rankings every four to six weeks on average. Soon, you will soon see results. The main thing here is to be consistent and do the above steps every single day for an extended period of time. You will see your search engine rankings improve along with your traffic and affiliate sales.

I would say that the best way is to do a bit of all. To be realistic it's difficult to get the results you wish simply by doing only SEO, adwords, commenting, or directory and article submissions. I would start with on site SEO. Build or optimize your website so as to be SERP friendly according to the niche you want to target. Then build your social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+ of course) and start "socializing" in forums, blogs leaving intresting and valuable content and info along with your backlinks. Then you can examine the possibility of advertising with AdWords.
You can get professionals to help you out, in small things like social media accounts creation or bigger things like your on site SEO. Peopleperhour.com is a great place to go to for these stuff.

You don't want traffic you want conversions (paid clicks, sales, leads and etc.).

If you have the conversions you can scale and test different traffic sources. Track everything and follow the money not the traffic.

    Traffic doesn't equal money.

The best thing to do at the moment is create good content, and keep creating it 3X a week. The more consistent the better. Google tracks all of that. The people that got slapped by Penguin are posting 5000+ links a month! and most are crap blog networks which do not work at all! Focus on good content then social bookmark it up and get some natural link love

Blogging, SEO, articles marketing, audio marketing, video marketing, email marketing (you need to have your database for email marketing), facebook page etc are all slow methods of gaining traffic. But their momentum will grow stronger over time. However, if you need traffic fast, perhaps you need to invest some of your money.

    Hi Mostafa999,

From my experience PPC with properly set up keyword tracking appears to be the best source for me. This thereby allows you to know which keywords are generating the most traffic and of course highest ROI...thus you can upscale!

'Free traffic' via SEO can be great if you spend the time ranking for highly targeted keywords. The problem with 'Free traffic' is that it's not actually free and places you at the mercy of Google!

    cheers, Patrick
