Profitability of a Self-Help Site?

Hi Guys!

First post for me - so impress me!

I'm interested in starting an online, authority affiliate marketing website on the niche of Self-Help.

I'm fascinated by the entire subject and could (well, have) read a book a week for the rest of my life and become really intelligent in this area.

My issue is...

Click bank doesn't seem to have any promising products from my perspective. Are there any other products out there to sell with a healthy commission rate? What are your opinions on the profitability or the likelihood of success in such a niche? Are there any suggestions or tips for this new-comer?

I appreciate any ideas.

Welcome to the Warrior Forum. "Self Help" is very broad and can cover a lot of niches. You need to get more specific. Do you mean "self help" in terms of depression and anxiety, relationships, or what? That's what you need to do first. Also, you should know that Clickbank isn't the only network out there. There's Commission Junction, Amazon, Pepperjam Exchange Network and so on.

Self help isn't a niche. It's a massive, crowded market. How do you suppose you're going to be heard with all the marquee name self help gurus out there? And, Clickbank actually has a decent selection of self help stuff.

If I were to narrow down "Self-Help", primarily it would be to the 'Success' and 'Motivation' niches.

Yes, I am impressed travlinguy, lol. I guess I've got to come across as unique and genuine, and care for my audience, rather than profits.

I am a *HUGE* fan of Steve Pavlina. Both Steve and Anthony Robbins are my idols and I hope to one day grow up like a hybrid mixture between the two.

I know that I want it, but I don't know how ... (yet)

In my experience, the most important aspect of marketing anything is to be passionate about it. It seems you have that. So now what you need to do is be about it. Study it. Read all you can. Live it. Write about it. Write about it even if you don't fully understand it all yet. The more you immerse yourself in it all, the faster you'll learn.

If you want to get into the fast lane consider making a study of of meditation and then practice it twice a day. That's the fast track. I wish I would have listened years ago when people told me that but I was too smart to listen. :rolleyes:

Create a blog around what you want to do and build a community. Write and read as much as you can about your topic. Get guest posters to write for you. Get syndicated articles from well known authorities. Get permission and then post informative videos on the topic. Begin to build a list by offering some little report, say a daily motivational checklist or some other helpful item.

The best part about doing all this (if you're in earnest) is your life changes for the better. Good luck.

I very much agree with these points. Even if your site doesn't turn out to be a giant moneymaker, at the very least, it's given you a place to take notes, read, write, discuss and build a community with like minded individuals to help further your own development. That, in itself, is a very valuable thing.

Anything is possible. However, you have to develop great content and generate a lot of traffic. This will require some money and a lot of hard work.

I think it would be best if you start with some research (this thread being your first step!)

Like 'travlinguy' suggested, starting your own blog and building a community around is a great way to break into this niche.

Here are few blogs I read regularly that would give you an idea about how you can go about it (sorry, can't post full URLs yet):

www (dot) thesimpledollar (dot) com

Take a look around those blogs, dig into them, and see how the community responds to the posts on there. They have Twitter and FB pages, and regularly share their own and others' content.

Like any other industry, your connections are gonna matter, so building a community that stands by you is very important.

First off I would like to say Clickbank has tons of self help products but I would go with recurring affiliate commissions on that because self help is a type of product that gets bought and other products get bought over and over.
Just throw this into google and see what you can find, also search for residual affiate commissions and look at the first few.

I guess I should of asked what are you defining self help as.
I think in terms of body mind and soul.
so don't search for self help exclusively,
Search for fitness
Health
Mind
Body
Soul
