I can understand having to have a certain number of posts to be able to send a PM, however it's a bit rich when someone pms you a direct question and you can't even answer them.

I have a pm I would like to answer out of courtesy but can't. I spent some time answering it too which was a waste.

So what is one supposed to do please?

Wendy

        Hi Wendy,

You could take out a War Room membership...
It's $37, supports the Forum, and allows you to PM immediately.

Don't post crap. Spend some time going through the forum threads and seeing who you might be able to help. Post threads that are helpful. It won't take long until you hit 50.

A lot of helpful answers - thanks everyone. I didn't realize it was only $37 to have a war room membership. It used to be a lot more expensive, or maybe I'm confusing it with something else.

I've always found this a very helpful forum, so will go and join up.

          Thanks again

You're half way there, keep posting! These measures are here for a reason though. I'm sure back when it was different, but on forums that deal with making money especially, a low PM limit results in insane amounts of PM spam.

you can send them a "Visitors Message" or if they have provided their contacts (which are usually below your image and details in every post you make), then you can contact them directly.

Wendy, I agree with responding to questions but unfortunately on forums of this size, the rules you need to make are there to stop the majority of nuisance members rather than to protect the small amount who use it properly.

I also don't think your option is actually something they could implement even if they wanted to because the vBulletin forum software doesn't allow it. There is no way for a forum software to know if you are responding to a legitimate question or not.

I used to experience the same thing. I choose the way to go to their profile and post a visitor message there

You currently have 28 posts and I think you only need 50 to be able to PM - so you're almost there!

Well I have to tell you I joined as a war room member and still can't send pms. I can't even thank people any more.

I don't regret joining, it's a great resource, but doesn't help to send a pm.

I'm not sure about having the War Room membership entitles you to PM but it certainly should not have turned off your ability to thank others.

It might be worth submitting a polite note to Thomas on the help desk if it stays that way.

Well, unless it has recently changed, you definitely should be able to. I have been sending/replying to PM's since about 10 posts, when I joined the War Room (just over a year ago.)

Likewise, the thanks button usually only disappears when you have thanked about 20 (?) people in one day. Or if the forum is struggling, and inadvertently logs you out. In which case, you wouldn't be posting either, of course.

I agree with Richard here, and would contact the help desk.

You might need to try logging out, and logging back in again.

Both of those are going to be temporary, while it's "going through", I think.

Jill's suggestion just above is also a good one. You'll be able to "thank" posts and to send private messages, as soon as your paid membership has been fully processed.

Thanks will wait a couple of days for it to sort itself out.

Update. Have just thanked someone, so looks like it's all good :-)
