If you have a youtube video that's a presentation or a screencast video and if you want to have better rankings in youtube and google then you can do one thing...

Help YouTube know what's in your video!

How?

Simply make a transcript of the voice in the video and upload the transcript in the video's Caption settings. YouTube will automatically generate the start and end timings of the captions using its voice recognition technology and include the captions/subtitles in the video.

This not only helps people who can't understand the voice clearly, but it also helps google to know what's inside the video.

And it has been experimentally proven that Google does index the words in the video's captions/transcript file! (proof)

    Think of your channel page as a web page, which is it. Use basic SEO principles and it can, and will, rank in the Youtube search results.

    Same thing for playlists. If your channel has 4 relevant videos, create a playlist out of them.

    Now you have 6 different "things" that can rank in the Youtube search results:

    4 videos
    1 playlist
    1 channel page

    If you optimize all these well, you can get them ALL to rank highly in the Youtube SERPs.

      I consider the channel page like the home page of a website and the individual videos in it are like blog posts in the website.

      Many people do not change the channel name. The channel title is in h1 tag and great for seo.

      My blog post shows how to change channel username and title since Google now uses Google+ profile name as the channel name as default when you sign up for a YouTube account.

    Also, remember that the video view page is also a "web page" and the words on it can influence the relevancy and ranking of the video on the page.

    It's OK to post comments on your own videos, and when you do, think "basic SEO" and be sure to include relevant keywords when you can do it naturally.
