How many email bounces before shutting someone off?

I recently had a domain and/or hosting problem lasting about a week which resulted in emails bouncing back.

In the short period of a week, I was surprised how many good newsletters I was cut off from such as Paul Myers.

What's the standard number of email bounces before you unsubscribe someone? Is that configurable in Aweber or other AR systems? I've never seen that option in Aweber.

    Most autoresponder systems are set-up to automatically
    unsubscribe people after a certain number of hard bounces
    (usually between 3-5 hard bounces).

    With third-party autoresponder services like AWeber, this
    is controlled by their system and is not configurable by
    the list owner.

    I host my own autoresponder and therefore can control
    the threshold at which subscribers are automatically
    unsubscribed after a certain number of hard bounces.

    I want to minimize the number of bounces that happen
    in my system so that I can maintain good deliverability
    rates, so I've got my system set-up to remove people
    after 3 consecutive hard bounces.

    Thanks for the reply. So in a week, Talkbiz sent me 3-4 emails? That is not typical at all for him - I don't think I've ever seen that in several years of my subscription. Maybe I got unsubscribed for another reason not related to my domain issue.

    Or if they detect a bounce do they keep trying for 3-4 times?

    Not a big deal - I subscribed again to those I want to stay on - just curious and surprised more than anything.

      Here's what AWeber say on their site about how they
      deal with undeliverable e-mails:

      What Does AWeber Do With Undeliverable Subscribers? :: AWeber Knowledge Base (no affil.)

      According to their documentation, if the e-mail was
      undeliverable 3 times within a 60-day period, they'll
      automatically unsubscribe the person from the list.

      Whether that's the criteria or cause in your case, I
      don't know.
