New site - content vs traffic

Hello everyone,

So I'm fairly new to Internet Marketing and I've decided to start a site. I don't want to say it's a passion site, but I do have alot of interest in the topic. I've been writing some content, and I think each article I write gets better as I hone my skills. It's only been about 2 weeks since launch, so I know I'm VERY early in the game here but I find myself at a crossroads when I sit down at my computer.

I'm always torn between doing Keyword research/writing content and trying to build traffic to my site. I know that content is King, but seeing 0 traffic to my site can be discouraging and it makes me want to build traffic. So what's the key to success here? Should I be focused on getting many more articles first, or balancing content with traffic?

On a side note, I'm distracted by shiny metal objects as well. Those other things that can build me an online income. Trying to stay focused on one thing until I see results!

Just keep writing and creating that content, two weeks is nothing. You may also search niche related forums and find out what people are talking about there (hot subjects) then write an interesting post about it and link back to that blog post from the forum. That is a good way to generate some quick traffic.

I would try to find a balance between both tasks. Make it a point to contribute a few posts a day in your niche forums. Do this daily; along side your content creation efforts and you should start seeing some traffic.

Content definitely comes first. But submitting you content to sharing sites is easy and helps expose your content to other people.

Do you think forums and article directories will help my traffic as much as guest posting? I'm finding it hard to connect with other site owners/bloggers that have authority in my niche. I might just need more practice at it....haha

Continue to write articles for your site but also begin to do SEO for your site. Start getting backlinks to your site targeting the keywords you want to rank and get traffic from. Ranking highly in Google will definitely give you Lots of traffic

I am new to IM too and sailing the same boat as Jeepfreak81. I have a few posts created for my niche targetted for keywords. But not sure if I need to keep creating posts every day/week to get the traffic. Question is what is the minimum number of pages/posts that is required to generate a decent traffic for monetization. Its not that I have no traffic at all, but its meagre.

    Any suggestions are most welcome.

Content will be my primary focus at this point. When I make a nice long post, I try to make an abbreviated version that i can guest post somewhere else, or maybe add to an article directory? What's a good tactic to SEO, I know with panda and penguin updates I would rather shoot for the safer approach, rather than keyword stuffing and other spammy looking tactics.
