I agree, use google keyword tools to find a long tail keyword/ topic that has a decent amount of searches and a low competition for your niche. Use that keyword as a topic for your article.

I agree, and with that being said it may be a wise idea to focus on a niche that you are familiar with.

How to Write an Ezine Article | eHow.com

At First select your keyword using google keyword tool and then make your template Search engine friendly. But you must keep your layout user friendly.

Now make unique content using your right keyword.

Share in social media and after having few content, start working with off page SEO.

The best advice for someone starting out and I really mean THE BEST advice is to completely ignore everything to do with SEO and anything else to do with IM. Forget about building backlinks and all that stuff and just get on with creating the content for your blog.

I assume this is going to be on a subject close to your heart.
    1. Plan your topics and categories, if your niche demands it, create a weekly feature.
    2. Create Case studies, tutorials, videos demonstrating aspects of your subject.
    3. Create free reports to giveaway and give your blog that viral buzz.
    4. Make sure you capture email addresses in exchange for the free report.
    5. Dont get too hung up on fancy bells and whistles of the template until you can afford a custom design.
    6. If there is something technically you dont understand, learn it or outsource it but dont waste time on it.
    7. Once you have a good amount of traffic then create your own user forum for extra buzz.
    8. Embrace the social media especially facebook and Twitter to help get the word out about your blog.
Once you have a good amount of content and getting a reasonable amount of traffic THEN start looking at monetization and SEO in more detail. The problem is if you start out looking at keyword search numbers, competition levels, what content is good for Adsense, affiliate offers etc.. ? You fall into the trap of limiting your creativity. It is that creativity that will make the difference between a great blog and a junky blog.. I hope that helps a bit..

I agree. Do some research on the keyword tool to get you going on a certain subject that people are searching for and start writing about it.

Forget the SEO in your posts. The reason for searching out things to write about on the keyword tool is because it helps you stay away from writers block and you always have helpful posts that people are searching for.

Also, make yourself acquainted with English writing. Good grammar and sentence structures are necessary to create great content. When I come across a post that is full of spelling errors or sentence structure flaws I immediately assume that this person is an idiot since they can't even write legibly!

At first select your platform. I think for the beginner using Blogger is really a good option. then research the keywords that you are interested in.
then read how to drive traffic. that's it.you will learn the other things by yourself gradually.

      Hi Connie,

If you want to earn money from blogging, then squidoo is the best platform. Never ever write articles, which you are not passionate about or doesn't like just for the sake of money. Write only those articles, which you are pleased and could add juice to the topic on the internet. You can search an upcoming product or popular products on the internet and write their review before its get popular. Buyers loves to read reviews before buying and as a marketer, provide them reviews. This way, you can really earn $500-1000 every month.

My advice to you (or to anyone else just starting out with blogging) is to pick a topic you know a lot about and start with that. It might be cooking, fitness, photography, etc. Look to your hobbies and interests to help you pick a topic. It makes it so much easier when you are just beginning to blog if you know your topic well, because you will have so many other things to learn about.

Writing a post does not need to know anything else other than the concentration about the topic on which you are writing. At the beginning you should not be aware about any keyword but you need to be aware about the quality of article.

So the factor is good quality so start something that you love to write. Believe me you will get amazing result.

First of all find a keyword you would like to rank for and then focus on authoring 'the ultimate resource' for that particular keyword/subject.

Take a look at the top 10 to get an idea of the quality/type of content you should be producing and then improve on that.

Once you have done that for a few posts you will have the perfect foundation in place to begin looking at SEO and building a solid link profile.

I concur here...writing what you are passionate about and have more knowledge about...will help you relate better with your readers...and you will also be more apt to take action to write everyday...vs...I know you love music, but write about how a blue whale gives birth since you'll make more per click

    I second kimboslice's response.

It's already recommended to write topics you are comfortable writing about. When you write a topic that you really want, you can put your personality on it. Your words will become persuasive. Your readers will look for more of your write-ups. They will follow your blog and bookmark it.

    Hi Connie and welcome...

The best blogs I know of, like, and follow, are the ones that answer specific questions. When I go there, I know WHY am going there and what I'll find. When you think about blogging, think about answering people's questions or providing a solution to what they're looking for around a topic you are passionate about. For example, if you were passionate about exercising, you would connect with an audience (probably mostly of women) who are also passionate about exercising if you write about your experiences at the gym, with new programs you are trying, what is working for you, etc.

You can certainly put in some keywords, but the more important thing is to write relevant articles for your audience, especially now with Google. A lot of internet marketers complain because Google changing their ways with SEO, but I think it's a good thing. Google is basically giving people what they want, not what has the most and best keywords.

Do keyword research and find keywords related to what things you are interested in writing about. The trick is to look for a keyword that has high search rates, but is not widely used by others to minimize the competition. There are lots of good tools to help you with your keyword search, you can just search them on the web.

In making posts, you can be general or be more specific to a niche. Don’t forget to make it relevant and compelling, and always be informative. You can also create appealing designs and always try to goal for a very interesting blog post, which people would love and share and talk about.

    Hi,

You can make your own website with your unique contents. You can optimize it and get it rank on Google, Yahoo, Bing etc.

I would like to post my humble guide to Newbies who want to know the basic of make and sell a website from ZERO.
If you are new to internet marketing, it is too bad that you cannot make a single cent successfully in a short time frame. There will be no one that kind enough to guide you. This is cruel but it is true. I spent a lot in the beginning and hoped that i would get some help from those so-called gurus. But they only showed me the things which can be easily available on internet. You need to try different methods until you find something which works for you.

To me (since i already have experience), what i need for an start up is as follow:
    - $12/month for a unlimited domain registration webhosting.
    - $8/year for domain (i would buy a few of them, let's say 5 domains).
    - Get a freelance to write eBook or articles for your topic(s) for about $200.
    - Use free tools like Wordpress template for your website.
    - Do marketing with free methods (facebook, youtube, article submission, forum marketing etc) to get traffic and to get ranked in major search engines.
    - Spend some money for ads and backlink (about $200).
    - Link all the monetizing tools for free (Google adsense, affiliates for electronic products, affiliates for physical products).
    My cost will be:
    - Webhosting: $12/month x 12 = $144
    - Domain: $8/domain x 5 domains = $40
    - Freelance articles or ebook: $200
    - Wordpress: FREE
    - Marketing with free methods: FREE
    - Ads & backlink: $200
    - Monetizing tools: FREE
    TOTAL COST: $144 + $40 + $200 + $200 = $584

I will be spending about $584 for my business which starts from zero. It will soon up and run and generate decent income if you use the correct methods. Hint: Go to my signature. Hope this information will give you some general ideas about how much you need to spend. But it is not guarantee that newbies can do what I said.

If you need some guidance from me, you can join my list in my signature. I will contact you personally.
Hope to hear from you soon!
    Alex.

Definitely do not start writing about IM or SEO if u dont know anything about it. Unless you are going to do a blog about what you are doing to learn IM and SEO. Just be honest, even if you dont make a lot of money you would learn a lot about IM and SEO by doing it.

Someone else mentioned Squidoo , that is a great place to start , do a search on the forum for squidoo serp crusher or squidooserpcrusher and buy the wso , its like 17 bucks I think. It's a really great course and this guy will teach you everything from start to finish in great detail, this would be perfect for you imo.

    Hi Connie,

As with many advice given, I also think starting to write on topics which you are passionate about is the best. If you choose a profitable topic which you have no interest in, you will dread what you are doing.

Also, someone has suggested Squidoo. I am using Squidoo too. That's a good platform to write anything you like without getting specialized as you learn about things like SEO, keyword research, getting traffic, etc (and you get paid for writing, not much but good to be paid as you learn, right?). But I don't spend money buying products yet because free and useful information is available easily.

When you slowly discover your natural talent in a certain topic, go full blast to develop it into your niche and blog about it to get your tribes.

All the best, I am learning too.

Few things I would like to add are:

You must use Wordpress if you are creating blog, it is SEO friendly, user friendly and it has free themes and plugins to use (for designing and SEO purposes) so it is good for newbie too.

You must take help of Google Adwords Keyword tool and you should be familiar with exact match keywords, you have to use exact match keywords, also you should have knowledge of local searches and global searches of a keyword.

Blog needs fresh content regularly so whatever you provide try to write it yourself so that it would be fresh, don't try to to copy from other article directories, blogs or don't syndicate as well.

For promotion, blog commenting is the best way to promote your blog, this way you can build links of your blog, you can get commentators on your blog and you can get dynamic content from the commentators.

Choose a niche that you are passionate about and simply start writing posts about it. Once you have built up a good base of followers, you can be concerned with monetization.

I think you should visit various blogs so that you can take some ideas from these blogs.

Great information. I am also relatively new to the concept and was wondering how often you should write an article on your blog. I have heard everything from daily to once a week. Can you advise please?

I plan to at least make one entry weekly, but hoping to keep up with one entry daily. I know that will be tough! My outlook on it is, that I will only add valuable content so if I don't have something good, I won't do it. Your writing is the main focus, so it better be your best stuff!

Alright here is some useful advise to keep in mind for any website once created. Content is the main issue for some people. I suggest you start off slow with articles and focus a bit more on rankings your website. once ranked you can have other people guest blog on your site once you get pageranks and traffic you will start getting things free on a daily basis with respect to backlinks they offer you in return. It's easy once you have pageranks and decent traffic, you just need a boost at the start.
