I'm sure they'll just love you for sending their system 20+ minute voicemails to transcribe, Joshua!

I don't think transcription services will be out of work just yet.
Still looks interesting in other ways though.

Guys - this Google Voice thing is going to be a great tool for us in the future. For the time being it is only available to people who are existing Grand Central users. Eventually I hope that it becomes generally available like Gmail.

I remember meeting the founder of Grand Central a few years ago. I thought he had a brilliant business, and apparently so did Google. They were bought shortly after I met the guy. Google pulled it from the market (except for existing users), and is now relaunching.

This will be an amazing tool for:

    1) having a free phone number with voice mail to put on your sales page. I haven't tested it yet but I'm betting that using a phone number at the top right of the page will improve conversion. People will take you more seriously.

    2) Voice mail will be transcribed to text for free by an automated service. It might not be perfect but we'll probably get the jist of the message and we won't need to check messages online. They'll show up in our email inbox.

    3) You can have your calls forwarded to a real phone if you wish, any number you want.

Grand Central is the equivalent of owning a domain. You can host the domain anywhere, but once you have the URL it is yours. Same equivalent with a phone number.

Google also has a massive investment in Clearwire. Any bets that Google Voice will appear as a free service to Clearwire users sometime soon?
